On the outskirts of the City of Chapada dos Guimaraes -- in a newly developed area -- sit some of the most interesting homes I've seen anywhere. Some are lived in year 'round; others are vacation homes, mostly for people from Cuiaba.
The attractive homes incorporate water towers -- in the center of each house -- in imaginative ways.
This house appears to have between 1,000 and 1,200 square feet of living space. I asked the owner of the Pequizeiro Lodge, which is also in the development, how much the house might sell for. He estimated it at R$120,000 (about US$42,000 at the mid-2003 exchange rate).
Two large and loud dogs (not in the picture) kept me from approaching this house too closely. At an estimated 2,500 square feet, the place is huge by local standards.
A pleasant house also in the area. The Cape Cod-type roof would ensure that snow did not stay on the house -- except that it never snows here.
