    THE SH*TTIEST AIRPORT EVER.....

by schurlif Updated Apr 10, 2014
    welcome to BH Int'l Airport
    2 more images

Belo Horizonte Int'l Airport Confins Tancredes Neves is IMHO the crappiest airport I ever had the displeasure to use.... Two months before the kick off of the World Football ( for americans: soccer ) Cup the airport is still in shambles..... Check in and arrival all on the same level, a mess... long distance walking, departure gates on the upper floor but no elevator.... escalators going up, yes but down, no..... they expect you to walk up a spiral ramp... Workers drilling, hammering in the vast hall and creating a havoc of a noise with echo.... I just dropped by a rent a car booth to ask a question, the guy could not hear me and I couldn't hear his answer because right in front a worker was opening the floor with a jack hammer..... I really pitied the poor guy at the rent a car booth, I could walk away but he had to stay for work...... dust everywhere,,,,,, and so on...... And they knew the date of the World Cup since YEARS !!! And they're still not finished to receive the hordes of football fans that will invade the city very, very soon.... And it looked to me as if they won't be ready either..... Not by what I saw....
Plus, most irritating, I wanted a fresh squeezed orange juice ( a normality everywhere in Brazil ) and a ham sandwich.... No fresh OJ... only from a machine that didn't work at first, then out came some sugary, artificially tasting something.... and no ham sandwich either, only prefab sandwiches, ALL with cheese in them ( which I hate )..... The coffee I ordered was pre-sugared... I didn't even get the choice of a sweetener...OK, I was very irritated with everything and these are my subjective remarks but it's true, they don't lift a finger to meet the customers wishes, take it or leave it..... First you have to stand in line to pay, both girls at the cashier with their sh*tfaces on ( very uncommon in Brazil where service is almost all the time with a smile....) and quite unfriendly..... then you have to stand in another line to pick up your food and drink, service was slow and incompetent.....
I couldn't believe this..... Other brazilian airports have their flaws, ok, but Confins is below acceptable.....

GREAT BUS FROM AIRPORT TO CITY

by schurlif Written Apr 10, 2014
    Unir bus taking you downtown

Belo Horizonte International Airport Confins Tancredes Neves ( named after the man who was to be the first democratically elected president of Brazil after the military rule but happened to die the day before taking office, I believe in 1985....., short name of the aorport is Confins ) is more than 32 km away from the city center...... I asked: Taxi costs 115 reais or ( today ) slightly more than U$ 50.... Why spend this money if there's a fantastic bus service costing only R$ 20 ( U$ 8,50 ) ? Unir Bus Company "Conexão Aeroporto" has nice air conditioned and WiFi equipped busses leaving every 20 minutes just outside the arrival area. The trip is smooth and takes you in some 50 minutes to BH's center.... Very recommendable, for your trip back you catch the bus at the same location where it left you.... Just say "Conexão Aeroporto" to the cab driver and he will take you right there.
You buy your ticket at the "Conexão Aeroporto" booth just outside the arrival area on the sidewalk. They accept AMEX cards ( only ) besides money.
Look at the state of the airport surrounding and wall on the two pictures.. I rate Confins airport as probably the worst I've ever been to...... read about it in my special review about this disgrace of an airport.....

The Bus rides 24h per day and for R$18 only, tourists will manage to ride from the Airport to Alvares Cabral Avenue in Belo Horizonte.

The ride is about 50 minutes long.

Depending on the departing time, some buses even stop at the Pampulha airport.

If you’re planning to go to Belo Horizonte by plane (through Confins’ Airport) be aware that it takes another long way to make it to Belo Horizonte’s downtown.
If you take a taxi from this airport you’ll pay something around 70 reais (32 USD, at today’s exchange rate). So, I suggest you take the executive bus. It costs only 13,45 reais/ person and takes you to Av Alvares Cabral, 387- Centro (Downtow) in 40 to 50 minutes.
It’s a very safe and comfortable bus.
At the end of the line you’ll always find taxi cabs parked outside, so you can continue your journey to your final destination.
You can even save a little more going back to the airport at the same bus….

From the airport to BH they start leaving at 00:15h to 23:50 (around 42 departures spread over the day)
From BH to the airport they start at 04:20 and the last departure is 22:10h

For detailed schedule reffer to the attached picture (the 3rd one)

  • Yellow Bus and take a walk.

    Downtown by Bus

Location: staying inside Contorno AVe. is paramount. If you stay in Lourdes, Funcionarios, Santo Agostinho or Savassi then you can expect to catch the YEllow Bus: SC02, SC03, SC04. however they do NOT run on the weekends or late evenings so be prepared to catch the Blue Buses or cabs(taxis) or simply WALK. Actually walking and riding the yellow buses are the *best combinations. *(Also the cheapest means of transportation).
