This is what carnival is about!!! Having fun!!!

Every street of the city historical center will be crowded with young people dancing, drinking, talking and having fun. From friday night until wednesday morning. Can you believe that???

On the market square (a few quarters from the Main Church Square), there is a stage where bands play loud brazilian music from 3 or 4PM until 8AM. You can party in the afternoon, rest a little bit and come back later for more fun. IT IS AMAZING!!!

    CARNIVAL - Parades

In Carnival, during the day, there are always some parades passing through the city. People will stop to watch them for a few minutes. It is really fast, unless you want to join them and walk around the city.

It is not like Rio?s Carnival so the parades are much simpler. It is a good moment to take pictures, which you will be able to show your family and put on VT...

    old Mine

of precious stones and minerals, thousends of mines where opend, millions of treasures ripped from below the earth, enourmes wealth generated.....but only for few people, till Brasils Independence in 1804
but somehow this wealth disappeared into dark channels, Brasil could have been one of the richest country in the world, but the plunder was fast and furios, now commercial plunder has ceased long ago. in the mid 19th century, Diamonds where found in South Africa, the decay of Diamantina's mining was inevitable
but the Town stands beautiful as ever and more interesting, the people are now the treasures of the interio of Minas Gerais, friendly, hospitable and sophisticated, yes.....with a great taste of liturature.
Richard Burton said after he left Diamantina: I left with great sorrow, such a nice place, the light of my visit to Brasil
