natural water holes in our days made the area a welcome weekend spot for us. these days it is declared an enviromental recreational park. swimmingpools have been added, walkways, horse riding, picnic areas and a drive through for those who can't or won't walk ^..^

the ecological park has been established in the 80's, great natural reserve for flora and fauna. over 400 species of native trees, like the jacaranda, which was used for housing and furniture making...in the old days, one of the hardest wood, after the teak, in the world. these days the few left are under protection.

the urban Landscape in and around Nova Lima has been build by the English in the 18th century, they also started the process of iron manufacturing...the area around N.L. has been rich of the incredience needed.
...the zig zag street one of the curiosities of Nova Lima, build by Slaves, constructed also by the English and no...you can't drive a car up and down, the last thing people thought of in those days anyway. one has to be a bit steady on its own feet to get down, up is better

I bought him in Salvador da Bahia..yes you could buy animals those days, and I had no clams in doing so. if I had not, he might have died cruely in a cage, took him, after a Bustrip of around 30hours, to N.L. where he lived with us for 2 years, then Otto made the big trip by ship across the Atlantic and settled down with us in Munich. He died in 1982, 12years of age. in the wild, the normal life expectancy of these Mormoset is between 7-10years.

has one of the great Stadiums in Brasil......o Mineirao
Belo Horizonte was projected to become the Capital of Minas Gerais, surrounded by beautiful Landscape, the neoclassical Architecture enhances the modern Architecture of Belo Horizonte an interesting mix and speaking for myself, a beautiful City.
Belo, ( beautiful ) as the City is affectioned called, is considered to have the best Quality of Life in Brasil. the climate mild in winter, summers not too hot, at times can be a bit rainy...reminds of Auckland/NZ
the first planned City under Juscelino Kubitschek then Belo's Mayor, who became later President of Brasil and went on to build the new Capital of Brasil......Brasilia.

Favorite thing: when the big Cities are explored and getting a bit monotonous, drive off the beaten path..just 20km from Belo Horizonte, Nova Lima have an other view into daily brasilian life.
Fondest memory: I am very fond of this place. my best friend and partner lived and worked here in a volunteer project.
teaching weaving and batic to the youngsters, building an art school which exsist and function to this day.
an other fond memory is the Carneval in Nova Lima, many nites have been danced away......the football club had also many success in the region
there are still mines operating, at Morro Velho with over 4km expancion one of the biggest in the world
