A good swim in a calm natural pool, but, I must confess, that if it wasn't the presence of two of the best resorts (my travel agent and friend told me) This beach wouldn't convince me.
To lay in a hot soup is not everything!

The long and wide beach is a good place to swim. With small surf or almost none, the waters are shallow and hot.
The protection of the reef may cause some algae concentration but with no risk, and not generalised.

The top attraction in Porto de Galinhas are the natural pools in the reef. It is, for sure an interesting trip, but not a good idea to have a bath. The "pool" is small, with a crowd in it, lots of fish, and food, and... some dirt.
The best is the fun with the fish around you, and the silhouettes of the several "jangadas" circling it. It is a short ride, cheap and quick. But the same program in Maragogi is more impressive.

The sun is severe, the mandatory stay in the pools will burn a little more our clear skin, and all the resources are useful to extend protection as far as possible.
The empty umbrellas spreading close to the water compose a precious path to and from the sea and allow funny perspectives of the beach.

Everybody goes to the natural pool (that's the main attraction of Porto das Galinhas).
But even if you decide to stay in the beach, the departure of all the "jangada", when the tide comes, compose a quiet and beautiful ballet, in contrast with excitement of the tourists on the way.

In Maragogi, the guys that make underwater photos of the tourists deny that they feed the fish - they say it's forbidden but the way the fishes surround them in particular, denounces that hidden practice.
In Porto Galinhas the boat men take fish food to divide with their costumers and feeding fish is assumed as one of the best amusements.
Specially Fernanda, who couldn't stop laughing with fish tickling her hand.

This 2-3 hour trip was a great way to see more of the area than you can see on foot, but it also just happens to be a way to spend a lot more money than you will in 2-3 hours on foot. I don't remember exactly what we payed for the tour, but it wasn't cheap. If you can share your ride with another couple or at least a single traveller, it makes it a little more affordable.

The best thing to do in an ocean that cannot be walked is to swim and snorkel! You pay for a sailboat to take you (and a few others) over the shallow water and into the middle of the great reef that gives Porto de Galinhas its beauty and mystique. You will be given a snorkel and mask (don't remember if it's included in the price of the trip, or if it's rented or bought from a local store) so you can wade in the warm green clear Atlantic and see the colorful fish and coral life.

While there you cant rent a jangada and do a littke or long tour with the fisherman. It depends on you, you can rent just to a short tour to the natural swingpool on the sea near the reefs or for a long day visiting many beaches.

This was a very inexpensive and relaxing activity which lets you enjoy the beautiful ocean and crystal clear water. For around 8 reais per person, you can spend up to an hour in the beautiful tidal pools which are around 500 meters off shore. The local "Jangaderos" will safely take you out to the pools and stay with you. There are tropical fish n the pools which you can feed, and they will swarm all around you! Very fun experience!
