Local transport to the island.

A little bit south of Recife there is a small island called Ilha do amor.
It's an uninhabited island with a coconut plantation and a couple of empty beaches.
It's a nice place to go if you like to have a beach for yourself.
You are unlikely to meet other people than a couple of guys looking after the coconut plantation.
The only transport to the island is by fishing boat.
Get a local fisherman to take you over there and arrange a time to be picked up again.

Gaibu beach.

A couple of hours south of Recife you have the beach of Gaibu.
It's a small place where you mostly have brazilians on weekend trips.
The beach has a good surf and there is often concerts on the beach during the weekends.
There are also a couple of pousadas where you can stay overnight for little money.

Brennand's Glass Factory

Recife - Brazil

My professional world is... glass. And, being in Brennand's property, I noticed a typical glass factory, that, obviously, I would like to visit, but it's closed to public, and I had no time to prepare a professional request for the visit.

But I was sorry, because glass is a much more spectacular product than ceramics. And they know it, for sure!

Porto de galinhas

Porto de galinhas is another beach near Recife that is worth visiting.
It's a little more upscale than Gaibu and the crowd tend to be a little older.
It's a good place to see famous brazilians as many of them have a house here.

Sidetrip to Olinda

You should make the effort to get to Olinda, it's a pretty laid back spot just 6km from Recife. It's full of galleries, museums and churches and perfect if you've had enough of Recife's gritty side. You can take a Pau Amarelo or Rio Doce bus from outside the Recife metro station.

The Francisco Brennand Atelier is excellent. This is a very big place with sculptures, temples...like a small city. This is amazing. Ask a taxi driver to get there. It´s 20 min from downtown.
