The beauties of Balneario Camboriu, always framed by sea and Atlantic forest, can be enjoyed on several tours. One of the finest is the lift that leads to the top of a mountain and ends at Laranjeiras beach. The city is famous also for restless nights in the summer. Several bars and clubs attract young people not only in the state of Santa Catarina.
At the Southern end of Avenida Atlântica you will find the estuary of Rio Camboriú and also the jetty called „Molhe Barra Sul“. It’s a popular tourist spot during the day but also a lovely place to visit at night. The illuminated skyline of Balneário Camboriú can be admired from the pier and also the „Cristo Luz“ monument can be seen.
We’ve been there at around 11 pm and there were still some more people going for a walk and at the end of the pier there was a couple of guys fishing with fluorescent baits. We’ve been watching them for a while as it was quite fascinating. I’ve never before seen anyone angling in the dark.
And there was one more intriguing occurrence: there were huge bats hunting for insects. They were skittering closely above the surface of the water. It took us a while to work out that it was bats. They were quite fast and we’ve never before seen any that huge. But it was very interesting to watch this extraordinary „hunting party“. Unfortunately I’ve not been able to take any photos of the bats as it simply was too dark.
There’s a small kiosk at the jetty (close to the chair lift (teleférico) linking the 2 beaches of Balneário Camboriú and Laranjeiras). The kiosk was still open at 11 pm, they sell drinks, snacks, cigarettes, etc.
Balneário Camboriú is one of the main beach resorts of Santa Catarina. So going to one of the beaches is absolutely inevitable! There are 10 beaches to choose from in and around Camboriú.
The Central Beach is the one that's most conveniently accessible from the town. It has a total length of almost 7 km and it's flanked by lots and lots of hotels, restaurants, bars and cafés. It's a nice, sandy beach and fairly clean as well. We've been there in late October and there have not been too many people at the beach then. But in Summer Balneário Camboriú can be pretty overcrowded and I guess that the same will go for the beach then.
Swimming is almost impossible due to the rather high waves. You constantly have to be "on guard" to make sure you're not washed away! ; ) But we've had lots of fun there, nevertheless!
There are many booths where you can rent beach chairs and sunshades as well as drinks and snacks at very good prices.
Central Beach is a great place to relax and watch the surfers taming the waves and the ships at the ocean which can still be seen in the distance.
Most of the people that come to Camboriú don´t know that very close to the city there are lots of options for adventure activities such as:
RAFTING, SAILING, DIVING, TREKKING, CANOYING, RAPEL, PARAGLIDING, FISHING ETC, ETC, ETC..
This was one of my Brasilian highlights. Only a few years ago, the already touristy town of Camboriu built this "teleferico" which takes you on top of a hill where you find nice tropical park with amazing viewing plattform. When you are done there, you take it down the other side of the hill, right into a beautiful sandy beach. And later, you return to the city again.
For Brazilian prices, the 23 Reais charged arent exactly cheap - but for tourists, this is worth the price.
