The bus transportation system in Floripa has 9 "Terminais de Integração", which operate the bus lines within the city.
Types of lines:
- Direta: leaves from Terminal de Integração directly to the Terminal do Centro, without stopping at bus stops on the itinerary. Comfortable and air-conditioned buses.
- Semi-Direta: leaves from Terminal de Integração to the Terminal do Centro (and vice-versa) and stops only at the Terminais de Integração on the itinerary.
- Paradora: leaves from Terminal de Integração to the Terminal do Centro (and vice-versa), stopping at the Terminais de Integração and every stop on the itinerary.
- Alimentadora or Linha de Bairro: leaves from a neighborhood to the closest Terminal de Integração (and vice-versa). At the Terminal, you can choose what type of line you will use to your next destination.

The city is divided into 7 rate regions:

How to Pay:
- Money: ticket can be paid directly to the "cobrador" (NOT the driver). "Cobrador" is the person sitting a couple of seats down that will let you through the turnstile once you pay your ticket.
- Passe-rápido Cidadão (www.passerapido.com.br/index.php?secao=c_cidadao.php): system of an electronic card that can be purchased and recharged at "Setuf" in the Terminal de Integração do Centro. First timers: signing up and buying a minimum value of credits are necessary. I'm not sure if foreign tourists can have this kind of card because you need a proof of residence (plus ID) for signing up.

We rented a car and drove around the island of Santa Catarina, which I highly recommend. It was so easy to get around and it was very cheap to rent the car... We called around and the agent dropped the car off at our hotel and then picked it up after three days.

The public transportation has been a big problem in Floripa for long time. There aren’t many buses, and now with the new system (the one that tried to integrate all the buses) it got even more complicated. One of the good actions though was the creation of the Executive line that consists in small, air-conditioned buses that run more often than regular buses and aren't as packed.

Pierre, Mr. Brazil and Rafael, Mr. Canada are road people, and we decided to continue our Brazilian Adventure crossing the roads of the country, and we headed south with my car, and this picture is the symbol of my great brother's adventure spirit.
Registro is the last city of S?o Paulo before reaching Parana State, our second visit to this wonderful state, and Curitiba was part of the way to the gorgeous island of Florianopolis!

Unless you have a friend that can give you a ride or don't mind spending your day on a bus, you will need a car. The ilha de Santa Catarina where Floripa sits is big, and the only way to reach the beaches or the smaller places like Lagoa, Jurere or Canasvieiras is by car.
There are plenty of rental agencies

Met Chocolate in the bus terminal and he introduce us to this car rental located about 1km from the bus terminal. It will be very much easier to rent a car t drive around Florianopolis its a far to get from one beach to another. The road system are really good around centro but not in the Norte.\

This is a very small airport. people are friendly like everywhere else in Santa Catarina. Check in was very quick. I could see the three brasilian airlines represented: Gol, Varig and Tam with domestic flights to Porto Alegre, Congonhas in Sampa, Rio, Brasilia. The only international flight I could detect was one a day flight to Buenos Aires with Aerolineas Argentinas, as we would have imagined.
Once you enter the waiting area, very little amenities remain. a coffee bar. toilets and that is all, and a telephone

The airport lies about ten km in the southern part of the city. You could take a taxi from the bus station for 35 reales or just walk across, less than 5 minutes , to the local bus terminal and take a bus to the Airport which drops you off right at the door of the airport. Regular buses take 25 minutes and its costs 2 reals. Fast buses operate only during the weekdays

Fairly modern building on the left as you enter the city of Floripo. and it has a welcoming feel to it. Tourist Information centre in the station is very helpful ( not the one with the sign saying tourist information .. they are just commercial agencies selling Hotel spaces )
There is a luncheonette Fabiano right inside and I had some nice Kibbeh and a good cup of coffee

Yes, it´s easy to arrive in Floripa... more easy is to movie yourself... Bus passing all the time, to everywhere...
Taxi is cheap, but it´s not a god idea, if you want to go to somewhere far away (cause beaches are not that close...)
You can call a taxi at night, to breath the nightlife...
