Heard so much about this place, that I decided to pay 50 reais for a trip (on a old Land Rover) to the other side of the island.

A simple warning: if you don't like 4X4 trips, go by boat. It is not an easy trip.

After one hour we arrived. An amazing place... a bay of 4 or 5 km of sand, with a small rock island in the middle.

In the left side you can find a small corner without waves with warmer water. From there you can start the walk to Cachoeira do Gato. A 80 metters water fall with a small natural swimming pool.

There are 2 or 3 places to eat... but don't expect more than fish and caipirinhas.

    You will love it!

Although I didn't go to this beach, on the Atlantic shore of the island, I've heard that it's a must go. You can rent a boogie or go by boat. I wouldn't recommend walking, since it's a rather long, very long hike. It's the best surf spot on the island.

    Small Cachoeira

When you go by bus, you'll see a lot of road signs with waterfalls on it. Of course, you won't find any Niagara Falls on the island, but take a walking trip into the jungle, follow the signs, and you'll find small waterfalls (cachoeiras), where you can bathe and have lots of fun. Being under a cachoeira is a must in Ilhabela.

    Praia Do Pinto, Ilhabela

There are so many beaches in this islands, that it's maybe impossible to see them all. Try going to a different one everyday. You can take the bus to get everywhere, and just stop at a different beach. Ask the locals which beach is better. There are some sandy white beaches on the north end of the island, while the southern beaches are more rocky. If you choose either one, you won't be dissapointed.
