The Tiete River bank Park is great - wonderful trails, good picnic and barbecue areas, there is even row boats for rental.
However, the Tiete River is very polluted and during hot, dry periods the park can have a very unpleasant smell.
Spend the afternoon at the botanical garden. Nice plan layout with a wilderness area, so you can see what Sao Paulo would look like if it was not covered in concrete.
Take the Blue Line 1 subway to the end (Jabaquara), then jump in a cab. It's next to the zoo.
With the purpose of keeping in the minimum the problem of inundations,a huge new " green" area was created in the city, for the inhabitants fun!
Here you can find many species, including the "capivara ",what is much common here!
This amazing park was created in 1976,with the main objective of trying to maintain the waters of the Tiete banks on their borders, and avoid the many and tragic inundations of some areas in Sao Paulo city!
The Parque do Ibirapuera, a large grassy area, is Sao Paulo's major public park. Its lake is a refreshing presence, and the park's monuments add a touch of solemnity. But, the planetarium is what sets the park apart.
Hopi Hari is an amusement park located in Vinhedo (35 minutes from São Paulo). I recommend the rollercoaster.

There is a poisonous animal park called Butãtã. Last time I was there it was a bit beat up looking. It would be worth a call to see if they've renovated the place. At the very least its a nice wooded area to stroll around in.
The park is divided in 2 main recreation areas: " ENGENHEIRO GOULART ",and
" ILHA DO TAMBORE,ILHA DO BACURI".
The park can be consider as a big cultural and educational "lab",where people can relax and be in contact with nature at the same time!
The park offers beautiful walking tracks,a library,an environment educational center, open theaters,a winter garden with many species of orchids, lakes and areas for barbecue!
