Z Deli: Yiddish (mama) cooking
You can never please a Yiddish mama, especially when it comes to food. You either never have enough food (you look so thin, have you been eating at all???) or you don't have quality food, in other words HER food (you look sick! You were never sick when I was cooking for you!). Sort of an Italian mom with a Yiddish menu...
Talking about menus there is a place in Sao Paulo that you will feel at home even if you have never heard of a Yiddish Mom before.
With two very well located branches (see addresses below), Z-Deli keeps the same format since it's opening in 1982: a small restaurant/deli with home made food and a New York influence. In other words: small, simple and cozy. It works. Enough to say that the renowned - Guia Quatro Rodas- has granted them a star every year since 1982.
The food is delicious even for those not familiar with the Jewish cuisine. A great selection of delicate quiches, Gefilte fish (fish balls) and Vareniks (potato ravioli with onion sauce) is always displayed on their front counters. The service is more than friendly but you'd better eat all your food or you get the mamas upset...
