This place is special to me because I live very close and I have studied at São Bento elementary school which is just beside the church.
Its detailled architecture is gorgeous and when they decorate for weddings, its beautiful.
A nice thing to do is listen to the gregorian mass (Saturdays 6AM and Sundays 10AM) and then buy a delicious manioc bread or special cakes prepared by the monks.

Brazil is a big catholic country for eyars and years since the beggining of our existence. São Paulo as one od the oldest cities in Brazil.
Sao Bento's Monastery is one of the main catholic orders in brazil and there are two big churches, one in Rio and another one in são Paulo.
In são Paulo you can find a rich mixture of barroc and bizantine style!

The region around the Cathedral of Sé is full of neo classic style dating the 20s...it is like a journey to the glorious day of the city, and I pay lots of attention to the building façades!
In the old town, you can really have fun taking pictures of histotical buildings!;)

This is the location where São Paulo was founded. It includes chapel, museum, and other items relating to the early history of the city. This includes the leg bone of the founder of the city.
The location is historic, but a number of the buildings is quite recent.
I only recommend this location for those who are avid fans of historic locations, since the buildings surrounding the monument are actually quite a bit more recent than 1554.

The Pátio do Colegio marks the place where the city of São Paulo was founded. It is now a center for cultural activity.
Initially a Jesuit school was built in this spot with the help of the local Guaianás Native American inhabitants. Besides the school itself and a church, the Achieta Museum is also housed here, displaying original sculptures by the Guarani native inhabitants, and a model reproduction of São Paulo in the 16th century.

This is the biggest cathedral in Latin America and worth a visit. It is located in the center of Sao Paulo, pretty close to the College of the Jesuits, on of the oldest places in Sao Paulo dating back to its foundation in 1554.

After traveling around Sao Paulo for a few weeks, I felt a need to connect spiritually. Sure, the Brazilian churches are lovely but I didn't fully understand their messages. I stumbled across Sampa Community Church, a place for both English speakers and Brazilians where the messages are video-linked from Andy Stanley's church in Atlanta. The people were welcoming and they even had snacks after the service. It was nice to meet others living in Brazil who had amazing stories to share and a real warmth about them. Sampa is located inside the Alumni Building at Rua Brasiliense 65 in the Santo Amaro section of the city and meets on Sundays at 5:25pm

This catholic cemetery contains plenty of sculptures made by famous artists, and is the resting place of many notorious brazilians. From the mistress of the former Emperor Dom Pedro I (1822), who donate the space to the church for the construction of the place, to artists, intelectuals and an ex-president.
TIP: Try to visit it in Nov, 2nd. When we celebrate the after life of the dead ones. The place is filled with flowers.
Don´t go alone. The place is very big and its a real maze. The lack of security make it unsafe sometimes.
