Ubatuba Things to Do

  • Swim at Ubatubamirim

No, we didn't go as far as Ubatuba, but we arrived, by accident, to this wide and empty beach, where the only company was... a VW. And, despite being winter, all men took a delicious bath in a soft surf.

  • the famous little Ubatuba AQUARIUM

Even though you're right at the beach here don't forget, you're in Brazil and finding such a little gem to visit is almost a "miracle" because Brazil is not really good at building worthy and easily accessible tourist attractions.... This here is "just" an aquarium, nothing comparable to bigger ones in big cities outside of Brazil but it has some...

  • UNESCO JEWEL PARATY

Paraty, some 70 or so km east of Ubatuba in the state of Rio de Janeiro is a whole tourist destination to its own but for me, owner of a beach house in Ubatuba it is "just" a day's excursion worth.... even though, of course, Paraty has an array of chic pousadas, boutiques, restaurants, sights and beaches. An ideal place for the tourist coming from...

  • IPEROIG

Not exactly known for its "lavish beach", this is the action center of Ubatuba, where it's all happening..... restaurant after restaurant, ice cream parlors, hot dog stands, shops, the handicraft market ( all year round ) and during high season the Amusement Park and shows of Brazilian musical celebrities make this sea side strip hum and...

  • GET TO KNOW YOUR BEACHES 05

ITAGUA BEACHjust slightly off west of Ubatuba's center, this beach is not recommendable for staying on it for any longer time, as the beach itself is really NOTHING special.....What' s special here is the historical significance of the place ( After Hans Staden's ordeals Jesuit priest Anchieta declared indian pacification on this beach and started...

PRAIA DURAsituated about 2km west of Lazaro Beach ( reachable only from the highway ), this almost always deserted beach is an about 1.5 km long stretch of sand and "nothing else". On the eastern end of the beach is the mouth of a river, descending from the nearby mountains. The river water is dark and cold, the ocean water is light and warm and...

  • GET TO KNOW YOUR BEACHES 03

DOMINGO DIAS BEACHadjacent to the western end of Lazaro Beach ( 100 m walk through a stony corridor ), this beach is almost always quiet due to the fact that it's right in front of the gated community "Pedra Verde" (access NOT limited or prohibited). The beach is totally surrounded by lush tropical vegetation, hills and the Atlantic Forest, being...

  • GET TO KNOW YOUR BEACHES 02

SUNUNGA BEACHadjacent to the eastern end of Lazaro Beach ( a 150 meter walk ), this is a beautiful place, alas, with heavy, sometimes even dangerous surf due to facing the open sea. There are three bars, soft white sand and the "famous 'grota que chora' ", a little cave where the water filtered through the rocks above drips and leaves for the...

LAZARO - A " bairro" of Ubatuba and my "home beach", this is where I have my little beach house. There are actually various beaches here which I'll introduce each as a separate tip.... (smiles).Lazaro Beach is about 15 km west of the city center, one half ( the eastern ) busy with little bars, banana boats ( only in the high season , Dec - Feb ),...

Praia do Cedro (also known as Praia do Cedrinho - diminutive of Cedro) is a quiet nearly deserted little beach. Easy reachable, about 20 minutes' walking in the rain forest from Praia do Tenorio (25 minutes from Praia Grande).

  • The Amazing Açaí

Don´t forget when visiting Ubatuba to go to Itamabuca beach. This beach is located at north shore, with big waves and cool people. Surf is the major activity there, but also the great Lourdes´s AçaíIf you don´t know, Açaí is a tropical fruit that contains a lot of energy and carbohidrates, great after a sunny day or physical activities. It is...
