Community of Mumbucas
Community of Mumbucas is close to Mateiros. It is composed of 165 residents, mostly descendants of slaves who came from Bahia in 1909 seeking better living conditions. Mumbuca is literally a big family, with the matriarchal tradition, that was formed from the meeting of blacks who migrated from the wilderness of Bahia with the native Indians. The families mixed up and started some kind of relationship. The crafts made of capim dourado have appeared in the relationship between residents. There is an association of artisans who are organized to produce and sell the pieces of crafts made from capim dourado, the Associação do Capim Dourado, with the interesting presence of women in leadership. At the beginning of the 20th century the community was very isolated and its inhabitants had to walk four days to reach the nearest town, Porto Nacional.
