    Parque do Mindu

by nevdelap Updated Sep 29, 2009

Perhaps once upon a time Parque do Mindu was nice, closer to it's creation in 1989, but today it should not appear on your itinerary.

We went there today, 29 September 2009. It's current state is unmaintained and spoiled. On first arriving the visitors center looks nice enough and the areas away from the river are clean, but they represent only the less interesting areas.

The parts that would be interesting - the walkways through the jungle, (there are supposedly three types of jungle to visit in the park), only provide a view of the filthy, polluted, smelly river running through the park, many of the walkways have fallen down or are falling apart, lead to trails which don't exist anymore, and are marked with signage that is broken, and wrecked. Now it is the dry season so the jungle that might otherwise be cover with water is just covered in garbage.

All in all it was disappointing and disheartening, especially to see the animals living among it.

Nice enough when you first arrive. The river (yellow) runs through the park. Cayman living among the rubbish and filthy water. It smells almost as bad as it looks. The sound of the water is so inviting.

Th "Mindu" Park is the largest one in the city. There, you can find three Amazon ecosystems in the same place. You will have the opportunity to stroll through educational trails and suspended walkways.
