Take a canoe
If you want to visit some of the small rivers you might want to hire a little dug out canoe. This is when life turns in to something out of indiana jones and it´s often the only way to travel when you get off the beaten track.

If you want to travel the Amazonas, then your best bet is to go by boat. There are hundreds of boats travelling the amazon river with cargo. Most of them take passengers too.Tust bring your hammock to sleep in as that is the most common way to live on the boats and you are all set for adventure.

Wherever you choose to stay in this region, you’ll need to travel to your accommodation by boat, probably via Manaus. We travelled to the Amazon Village Lodge from our previous base in Iguaçu, using (in order) plane, minibus, river boat and motorised canoe. I’ve described the Manaus port on my page about that city, so here I’ll focus on the latter stages of that journey, which from the point of leaving the city was about four hours in length. The river boat took us for most of that journey, and gave us some great views of the Amazon, including the Meeting of the Waters and a sight of the resident river dolphins. Because we were there during the dry season water levels were low, which meant that the boat couldn’t take us all the way to our lodge. Instead we had to transfer to a small motorised canoe for the last part of the journey. This took us along one of the tributaries to the lodge’s...

The main airport of the Amazonas State is situated in Manaus. Flights from other parts of Brazil including Santarem, Belem, Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo as well as international flight from North America arrive here. Smaller aircraft serve the towns within Amazonas. Charter flights are also available.

Over the years, I have travelled back and too Australia over 6 times, and the flights have been around 23 hours long, with maybe a stop for only a few hours in between.I am really not looking forward to this trip from Manchester, as it will be from Manchester to London, then London to Sao Paulo, then Sao Paulo to Manaus. All together three different planes, that means three chances of loosing my jungle survival baggage. LolOn top of that, there are waiting times totalling about 8 hours between flights, and a total travel time including waiting times of 22 hours.Being that I am 6 foot and 18 stone of Herculean muscle, hehe, and my travel partner is 6 foot 4 and also a big chap, we are in for an uncomfortable trip. Look, I’m not even on the plane, and already I moan. Us brits hey? Nothing like a good old moan. Or is that just I? lol
