by Tamani Visit the beaches. This is the beach at Canoa Quebrada. I fear it may be quite crowded now, but in 1995 it was wonderful. Quiet during the day and bustling at night. Also it was the first time in 3 months I spoke Dutch again. I met some very nice people there. Leave a Comment

Fortaleza is a big city (over 2 million people)that still holds on to a certain small town's charm. By walking thru Beira Mar Avenue around 6pm you can see many people jogging and exercising. I must say that Beira Mar is right by the beach. Now tell me who can actually refuse a nice walk (or jogging) feeling the nice ocean breeze? And after burning some calories you can get them back by drinking a cool coconut water or a beverage made of a tropical fruit called 'Guaraná'. If you get lucky you can even see some people performing 'Capoeira' (leg-wresteling, an afro-Brazilian form of self-defense, also praticed as a sport). Leave a Comment

Fortaleza is geared towards catering for visitors. The main information office of the state tourist office, SETUR (Mon-Fri 7am-6pm, Sat 8am-2pm, Sun 8am-noon; tel 085/212-3566), is in the Centro de Turismo in the centre, at Rua Senador Pompeu 350, and should be your first port of call; the staff know their stuff, and are especially good on the complicated bus journeys that are often necessary to get to the out-of-town beaches. The tourist information posts are also friendly and efficient; they give out free city maps, and if you're planning to travel in the state outside Fortaleza you should stock up on the relevant information here. There are information posts at the airport (24hr; tel 085/477-1667) and at the Rodoviária (daily 6am-6pm; tel 085/256-4080). The best maps of Fortaleza are usually to be obtained from the municipal tourist organization, FORTUR , who have an information post (daily 8am-5pm; tel 085/252-1444) on Praça do Ferreira in the centre. by Hissataka The city is a bit abandoned, and the beaches along the coast are polluted. Praia do Futuro, however, is very beautiful and nice to spend some time on. The coolest places I visited were outside Fortaleza and the bus trips were endless!
Something I really miss when I remember my trip is the good weather and the beautiful view from my hotel room. Leave a Comment

by SoccerGirl09 This is a picture of "Praia do Futuro". "Praia do Futuro" is a place where you can go to enjoy the beach. It is in town and it is close to most places. If you don't have much time in Fortaleza but you want to check out the beach, that is the place to go... there are dozens of individual "barracas" that you can go and eat, drink and etc. It is not the most beautiful beach you will see, Fortaleza has waaaaay preatier ones, but it is pretty and in town.
It is always good to go to "Praia do Futuro" because I always get to see my friends. During vacation, it is always packed full with very good looking people, from natives to tourist. Just sit back and relax!!!!! Leave a Comment

by SoccerGirl09 Fortaleza to me, means home! I was born and raised in Fortaleza, and there I spent the best years of my life. Fortaleza is a great place to live. It is a big town and there is lots to do! I haven't been home in almost two years...
And what I miss the most about Fortaleza??? I miss the sunshine all year long. I miss the cool breeze from the ocean and the white sand on the beach. I miss the happy environment and the happy people. I miss going out all the time and just having a blast! I miss the positive energy involved in every single place you are at, and in every single person you are with!!! Leave a Comment

by Manoel_Dias The capital city of the state of Ceará, Fortaleza is known for its beautiful beaches, the year-round sunshine, soft breeze and rich handicraft. It is home for the best lacemakers of Brazil. enhance the coastline of Fortaleza and surroundings from where you can watch the constant arrival and departure of the colorful sails of the ‘jangadas’ , fishing rafts typical from this region of the country. at Cumbuco beach; or sliding down a water ‘tobogã’ at are just two of the many attractions of Fortaleza, not including a visit to nearby scenic and the Pe. Cícero statue, among other interesting sites in the state.
