    Parque Nacional de Jericoacoara

The natural environment of Parque Nacional de Jericoacoara was in 1984 declared an "Environmental Protected Area". It's greatest attraction is Jericoacoara beach but in addition the area has a very picturesque landscape with huge dunes, extensive beaches and the singular rocky blossom denominated Serrote. You can catch sight of various species of birds, unfortunately some of them already threaten to extinct.

The Park is actually difficult of acces. There is no regular transport but I guess you might arrange the tour with one of the buggy drivers. I was really happy when my dear friend Otacilio had offered to drive me around on his motorbike. It was unforgettable adventure!!

    Lagoa do Paraiso (Paradise Lagoon)

At the bank of the greenish-blue Lagoa do Paraiso, tourists and locals from the region enjoy the tranquil beach. In spite of its water volume having diminished over the last few years, it is still much frequented for bathing. The best time to visit is after the rainy season, then the lagoon will be most probably filled with water.

Lagoa do Paraiso is 15 km long and surrounded by beautiful dunes. There are a couple of restaurants, serving fresh fish and seafood dishes. It's also one of the best places in the region to practice windsurfing.

The ideal way to get to know the natural beauties of the region is by a dune buggy. Ah, it's such fun!! In Jeri a lot of buggy drivers offer daily tours with several routes to choose. If you take the one to Lagoa do Paraiso, you'll pass by Praia Prea and Lagoa Azul. It's about a 40 km journey.

I made the tour with Otacilio by motorbike and really enjoyed it. The scenery was simply magnificent!!

We visited "Jijoca" lake, better known as "Paradise"lake, and the "Blue"lake.
It's a great place for sailing, specially beginners, because of its calm water.
The lake is about 15km long, with clear water, plenty of wind and sun,as well as bars along the shore,a point to take a break!!

One might need some extra days to find and enjoy the distant village of Jericoacoara, some 300 kms north-east of Fortaleza, but it is absolutely worth it...
