Horseriding in Jeri is very popular. It's perfect for discovering of the surroundings. You can rent a horse and ride along the beach, visit Pedra Furada, the near hills or mangrooves. It is suitable also for those who never ridden a horse before.

It's possible to arrange it with the guide to accompany you although most of the people ride on their own. Don't worry, the horses are very calm and get used to the activity!

Prea is one of the best spots in the world for kitesurfing. It is located 10 km east of Jericoacoara. The region is known for its tropical warm waters and consistent side onshore winds, onshore currents and wind speed from 15 to 30 knots year round. The biggest waves reach 2 meters and there are miles and miles of empty beaches without obstacles, rocks or dangerous objects for safe kiting conditions.

There are a couple of kite schools in Prea and Jeri that offer professional lessons focused on your specific needs, from beginners to advanced.

    Sandboarding

Sandboarding is an adrenalin sport, similar to snowboarding. It basically consists of standing on a board and zooming down a dune with the wind beating your face. The only differences are that instead of snow, heavy suites and freezing temperatures, you enjoy gliding on the sand while wearing shorts at 30C.

In Jeri sandboarding (locally known as ski-bunda) is undertaken by residents and tourists the entire year round since sand never melts :) It's a very exciting experience practicing this original sport on Sunset Dune during sunset!! Many people do this!!

Several surf and sandboard shops rent boards, one of them is Jeri Aqua Sport on Rua do Forro.

    Windsurfing

by mircaskirca Updated May 31, 2007

Jeri is presently considered as the best place in the country for windsurfing due the excellent climatic conditions: calm ocean, warm water and constant winds. Every year more and more foreigners, including professionals, spend the season in Jeri to perfect their technique. Many natives try out their skills as well.

It is possible to windsurf at any point on Jeri beach up to the curve in the Guriu river and also on Lagoa Paraiso which is well suited for beginners. The weaves aren't huge in Jeri, rarely exceeding 2 meters, but combined with the strong winds blowing with the waves, they work as a catapult, tossing you upward. Malhada beach on the bay's east side is often frequented by surfers.

With constant year round winds, windsurfing is possible in any season. However, the best time is the second half of the year, from July to January, with the peak months being August and September. The best time to surf is around 3pm.

    Look Mum! No hands!

Rent a sandboard and have some fun! You don't need to be an expert, I did it for the very first time in my life and I was quite able to keep balance. Watch out: some parts of the dunes are too steeeeeeep...! CRASH! OUCH!
The board costs 8 reais an hour.

    Windsurfing in Jeri

Someone in Jeri told me that it's becoming a popular destination for Europeans who like windsurfing, as the wind and sea are very good to do it. Still, if you would like to learn, there are some windsurfing schools.

Equipment: La Pousada da Casa do Turismo alquila el equipo necesario por R$ 2,00 la hora.

1.Horseback riding:ideal for short distances, you can take a ride to the " Arched Rock",for example, and the nearby hills,or just enjoy riding along the coast,it can be arranged with a guide or you can ride it yourself! And don't worry, the horses are very calm!
2.GPS (global positioning sistem):you can rent this fantastic instrument at the " CASA DO TUIRSTA "(the tourists house),and I trully recomend you to take one,it shows your position, speed, distance, direction and the amount of time left for you to reach your destination PRECISELY!!
As the dunes are an easy place to get lost,it gives you a great safe feeling you can walk, drive,or whatever you prefer to get to know the surroundings, and won't be lost!
3.Sandboarding:wow,I love this sport,I tryed it first time here,in the Northeast Coast! It's great,a feeling of freedom that you never felt before!!We called it in Brazil "BUM-SKIING"!!You can rent a board near "Casa Do turista",and the best place to practice this awesome radical sport is the "Sunset Dune",of course,in the sunsets!!
4.Windsurf:as a sister of a very known windsurfer,I have to say I am really not an expert in it!!But I tryed here with my friends, most of the time I was in the water instead of in the board, and I felt very tired after an hour of trying!
Jericoacoara, anyway,as I heard,is the top site for windsurf,as it has strong winds due to the trade winds that arrive from the African continent, besides,Jeri has the unique fact that most of Ceara's coastline is SE to NW,Jeri coast runs E W,parallel to Equador line, and the winds come in full force,as there's no obstacles in the way!!
5.Sailing:besides the wind facts I mentioned,Jeri has several sailing points.
Beginers, those who will prefer calm waters, can sail at the "PARADISE LAKE".
In the sea,it's fantastic! The wind beggins early morning and doesn't let up until night falls, the peak hours are around 3-4PM.
    Picture:the " Blue Lake".
