The Paraná "Pine" Tree
This odd looking "pine" tree (which isn't actually a pine) is the symbol of the state of Paraná in a number of different ways. Of course, it shares the name with the state of Parana.As the tree gets older, the lower branches drop off so that the tree does not carry any unnecessary dead wood. The top branches fan out to grab what light they can.
