Or poncho. I got a plastic poncho and wish I'd gotten the umbrella. I'm reducing my use of plastics, especially single use plastics (water bottles, plastic bags) because it doesn't pay to recycle. And on top of that, bottle caps don't recycle, and on top of that the polyethylene in the plastic (softens the plastic) ***s with one's health and...more
Make sure you save time to spend a lunch here! This place is amazing! I enjoyed the classic pastel de bacalhau at a spot downstairs among the food stalls. You may want to have lunch upstairs. The restaurants with full service (and real plates & cutlery) are upstairs. It was bustling with people. A great, great vibe! A definite must for lunch! I...more
Architecture buffs will check out Edificio Copán, an apartment building with 1160 units designed by Oscar Niemeyer. The units vary in size from 26 to 350 square feet housing residents of different incomes, a social experiment. The coffee bar at ground level is one of the best spots in the city to grab a cup o joe. I had an orange juice. d'oh! I...more
If you are interested in mid-century architecture, a visit to Parque do Ibirapuera is a must. There are a number of Oscar Niemeyer edifices here. Along with them a bit of nice art too. The museums of Modern and Contemporary Art as well as the Afro-Brasil Museum are housed in Niemeyer Designs. I definitely recommend a visit.more
It is easy to miss this place. Walking by on the sidewalk you only see a wall and the doorway. If you look up you'll see the makings of an outdoor terrace and become curious. I was, and is how I discovered this place. The pizzas are named after internationally famous artists. The pizza tastes great though the topping combinations were a little...more

I just remember I had a great time and would recommend this place. Beware of the glasses of beer they keep pushing on people. They are surprisingly expensive. They...more
This tip is also in the hotel section. The Bar is worth a definite visit. Drinks are relatively expensive (R$18 for a Caipirinha), but not more expensive than at a not-as-nice place in Los Angeles.
It has probably been said a thousand times by now but ... DO NOT have valuable things like laptop computers or even computer bags visible in taxis etc 'cause they will be stolen ... even when you're on the highway (see those two guys on a motorcycle?)!!!
