I don't know if it's a cultural tip or off the beaten path..think both..in the MARIO QUINTANA CULTURAL CENTER or in the IAB CULTURAL CENTER(INSTITUTE OF THE BRAZILIAN ARCHITETS)there are many nice and interesting expositions with some young talents from the university.I have to show you some pictures of my good friend,SUZIENE DAVID,who study arts and will be a professional photografer. She just shows,in the b&w pictures,a little of the typical faces of our people.Suziene also helped me since the begining of my studies making with me a lot of pictures of interesting houses or historical sites to use in my project..here is an atribute for her work..i had her approval for it,by the way..

The 'Anfiteatro Por do Sol' is the place where usually you will find free music shows that happens on our city. It is not difficult to find a music show, especially with brazilian music, on saturdays or sundays. This place is located on the banks of the Guaiba river and I am sure that you will enjoy this tip !

The Mario Quintana´s culture house is one nice place to go with your friends, there you will find music concerts, movies exhibition and teathre plays. On the 'happy hour' after the work, you can go there with your friends and drink a very nice beer there. One tip: ask for the beer tulip.

Another good cultural tip is the Rio Grande do Sul Art Museum, located on the 'Praça da Alfandega', on the city dowtown. There you will find a lot about the brazilian and the state art and, of course, foreign artists.

Tipping is a normal 10% usually included, if it's not it will say so on the bill. Depending on the degree of formality, when being introduced, you can greet the opposite sex (or girls can greet girls) with a light kiss on each cheek. Oh, and don't use sarcastic or dry type of British humour in jokes, it doesn't work with Brazilians and can sometimes offend.
