The Shopping Center Iguatemi is the best shopping mall in Porto Alegre. It has department stores, book stores, gift stores, etc. It also has a nice restaurant (Riverside's Grill) with reasonable prices.
What to buy: Porto Alegre is a great place to buy leather products in general (jackets, shoes, handbags, wallets, etc).

This is the most popular mall of Porto Alegre. The most popular braziliam stores are there. You can eat a "home made" braziliam food, an American Hamburger or a sofisticated european food.
His location, in front of Parque Marinha do Brasil , give us a beautifull view.
The mall is located at Menino Deus, a beautifull neighboorhood near from down town.
What to buy: You can buy things from Rio Grande do Sul as clothes, gifts, shoes and anny thing you find in malls as books, CD's, DVD's, computers and eletronicals related.

In " Brique Da Redencao ",the kids find thousand things to buy and see,and many activities, special for them.
There are stands for painting, drawing, pets, and the Redencao Park is just few meters from the market, actually, the market is partially in the park!

Located in the neighbourhood of Bom Fim "BRIQUE DA REDENCAO ",is a big street market, something like " Portobello " in London, you have everything, from organic food, local crafts, antiques, arts, shows, expositions, flea market area, clothes, shoes, and the most important:if you are a tourist here and didn't have the oportunity of meeting us,the " gauchos "(actually everybody called me a "cariucha",a mix between "carioca"-people from Rio,and "gaucho",people from the south) ,than WELCOME,HERE IS THE RIGHT PLACE TO MIX YOURSELF WITH THE REAL PEOPLE OF PORTO ALEGRE :-))
The market is open every sundays, the street is closed for this purpose, and all runs there!
I'll add a picture here, and more "streets scenes "of the market in a travelogue!
ENJOY!!

My favourite mall is " SHOPPING CENTER IGUATEMI",it's close to where I live, and I have regular shops I buy there.
The parking area is very big,you always find a place to park, and these days they open the " VIP PARKING SERVICE ",where you have a guy who look for you for a place and park your car,in the rushing hours the price worths, the parking area is not for free anyway, only the first 20 minutes are!
The mall also has a special rest room for breastfeeding babies, where the moms can feed their babies in a comfortable place, out of everybody's eyes!
And so as weelchair facilities, the weelchairs can be picked up at the reception, strollers for babies as well.
The security guys are everywhere, giving you the feeling you are completely safe of robberies there, also great for " LOST KIDS ",because they will never leave the shopping alone, these guys are " all eyes "regarding kids walking alone!
In the 2nd floor,a cyber point with FREE access to internet, but don't go in the crowed hours, you will wait for a PC for a long time!!
The restaurants areas have ALL what you would wish to eat ( Gourmet Center - I prefer the one in the 2nd floor).
And what's running these days at " IGUATEMI "?The always famous and wonderful " DONNA FASHION ",a fashion show with the best of the best of Brazilian designers!!
In the gallery area,an exposition of Volnei Sant'anna,a great painter who relates all his work to South Brazil landscapes.
In the " Donna Fashion " area,a special coffee shop, serving good and cold champagne, while you apreciate the models and the wonderful designers work!
