by Julie_B Also known as Redenção it is one of the biggest parks in the city and is located near the business center of the city. Inside the park there are many temples. by Julie_B Casa de Cultura Mário Quintana - Cultural Centre Building in a neoclassical style, built in the beginning of the century, project by the german Theo Wiederspahn. The former Magestic Hotel was once the residence for the famous gaúcho poet Mário Quintana. Restored in 1990, it is now one of the biggest cultural centers in Latin America. When visiting, go to the Majestic Cafe on the top floor with an excelent view of the city center. Visitations on Tuesdays thru Fridays, from 9:00 to 20:00, and on the weekend, from 9:00 to 18:00. by Julie_B Centro Cultural Usina do Gasômetro - Cultural Centre Locate on the shores of Guaíba,the building holds an old thermoelectric powerhouse of the city that was active from 1928 to 1974. Since 1991, it's one of the most important cultural centers of the State. It's chimney is 117m tall and serves as a visual reference throughout the city. From 1995 to 1996 suffered a major restauration process, which modified its origianl structure. With over 100 shops and stores, there is great variety of options: restaurants, fruit and fish stores, and a famous ice cream parlour. by Julie_B View of the sunset from the shoreline of the Guaíba lake is a must. Praised and imortalized by the local poets. To see this magnificent sight it's better to plan ahead - choose the right observation points and be there at the right time. In the summer time, the sunset is aproximatelly at 20:15; in autumn, 17:40; in winter, 17:30 and 18:45 in spring. Almost all of the shoreline serves as great observation points, but during winter, a great spot is from the Usina do Gasômetro. Leave a Comment

by janaina The governor's palace(PALACIO PIRATINI).Seat of the state government since 1921,it was designed by a french architet and the internal panels signed by renowed italian painter,Aldo Locateli,specially the ones thatportrary the legend of the NEGRINHO DO PASTOREIO,a famous south legend.Designated state heritage in 1986,the palace is open for visitation during almost all the day,no entrance fee and there's a guide that explain about the history of the palace,the meaning of the pictures and famous historical moments in specific rooms..
