I mentioned in my Brazil page..Rio is over rated and one should go beyound those city limits, for example:the crimerate drops dramatically once you left Rio, Brazil is a great and big counrty.there is much to be discovered and when one only sees Rio or Sao Paulo..okay thats fine by me..but do miss out on something very beautiful, like the Moinhos de Vento Park, a weekend retreat for the Cityfolks!!!
Gramado and Cenela are offerning not very much interesting spots, so don't stay too long there. All sites can been seen in one day, and you have to decide if you like to see the home of Santa Claus, a lake, a typical german house, a small chocolate fabric, a museum with american cars and bikes from the 50's etc. I found it all not very interesting.
My personal experience is very positive in this issue. I went to several restaurants and bares, contracted a tourist pack at a local agency, etc.. and i never had the sensation of being lied.
