    ATM & Banks in Brazil

by MikeAtSea Written Mar 1, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Brazil offers a number of banks, unfortunately not all accept international cards. In a number of cases I was not able to draw money at all, even though the bank should have accepted the card or the ATM was simply broken.
If you arrive in Brazil during carnival you will find all banks closed and hardly any foreign exchanges open. What makes matters worse that some shops during this time do not accept foreign currency.
This was my experience during carnival 2007 where I could not get Brazilian currency and could at some points not pay, even in tourist shops!!

    Boat tours. beaches

    by Vanessa-brNC Written Jul 14, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: You must do a boat tour of all the beaches - make sure you cover all of them (can be done in a half day).
You also MUST take another boat tour to see the Prainhas in Arraial do Cabo (see photo). This is another half day. Skip the tours that also include lunch and Cabo Frio.
I didn't do this one, but heard that there is a "mirante" in Buzios, where you can see the whole "island" - it is supposed to be incredible.

    Coconuts on Geriba

by racheljapi Written Feb 14, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: While coconuts in Rio usually cost between R$1.5 and 2 they cost about R$2.5 in Buzios. Hey, that is nothing and there is nothing better then a cool coconut full of fresh coconut water on a hot beach.

    Exotic Buzios

by besbel Updated Apr 18, 2004

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: What thrilled me about this place was the sensation that I was in a lost spot of the jungle, next to several wonderful beaches. The blue sea, the dense vegetation in the gardens, streets, parks and beaches, the presence of lagoons of different sizes all around, some "streets" made of mud and, of course, the hot weather (with some mosquitoes coming along with it), gives the place this touch of wilderness.
If you are as fond of tropical places as I am, then you are going to love Buzios!

Fondest memory: Jumping from the escuna to the Joao Fernandes beach, no doubt about it! Swimming to the coast just made me feel so free, so accomplished (I am not satisfied if I don't swim in the beaches of the places I visit) and so warm (despite the cold water!). Made me feel as if I had always belonged there :)

by Aquamantos Written Jul 1, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Walking around is the best way - at least for me - to discover different sides of a place.

Fondest memory: It's always nice to walk around Buzios, nice streets, architecture, etc.
I went with 2 friends, walking all the way down from our Pousada to Joao Fernandez Beach, it took us an hour or so, as we wanted to stop everywhere ;o) we had a lot of fun.
