There aren´t many dangers in Ilha Grande today...the villages are small, you can usually walk at night without trouble. It is such a calm place, that it´s hard to believe its closeness to the city of Rio.
But what can really mess up your night are the mosquitoes....
At least when i went to Ilha Grande I had lots of trouble with them.....I had to wake up several times to kill them, besides the bzzzzzzzz sound on my year....and i guess in one night i killed more than fifteen, till i bought a repellent lotion and slept in peace the other day.....=P
So, don´t forget to bring repellent with you!!!!!

We did it, we were sorry...it was an accident, we are American....we we don't like our president either, did not vote for him in fact, protest his beliefs in fact. Just because we live here does not mean that we agree with everything that happens here, or elsewhere in the world as a result of our country.
Some people can see past that and take us for who we are... some cannot. I am sorry for those who cannot as they demostrate, in their prejudice, the very thing that they are being critical of.

I didn't know birds this size can sit in trees. There was hundreds of them in the palms along the oceanfront. They skwaked and flapped all around. It was bizarre. In the morning I took a walk along the beach into the small town and found these King Kong Vultures eating a dead fish. It was surreal.

The trails can be quiet misleading. Yu should hire a guide so you are not lost in the jungle. If you are in abraao look for Suloeste. they have great guides. Or you can join a program that hikes everday through the jungle at the island experience.

In Caxadaco, for example (particulary ),the amount of garbage left around the beach is increasing every season, some has the hard work of hidden their garbage, what make the work for the guys who clean it even worse, because many times they cannot see it!
Picture:Lopes Mendes beach,Ilha Grande, the most famous beach in Ilha.
The waves are very strong here (great surf point ),but the beach is particulary not depth.
the clear water is a must here, you can see the fishes swiming around!
Pay attention to the holes here,it can be really dangerous!

When on Ilha Grande you will want to walk to one of the more distant beaches. Having done so you will probably NOT want to walk back again, so you will avail yourself ofthe services of one of the fishermen that is waiting to take you back to the main village.
We did this, but our captain had been drinking for some time, and managed to run the boat that we were on (with about 20 other tourists) into some rocks.
Although no-one was hurt, it did take us an hour to be rescued by the coastguard.... so check on the state of the captain before you get on the boat!
