Yes!!!!! When you are in Rio and spend hours and hours in a huge traffic, just head south of the city and try to reach via the neighborhood Cosme Velho the so impressive green of Tijuca National Park, in this park you will see the famous Statue of Christ on Corcovado Hill and you can walk in the lovely and well kept trails of Tijuca.

Rio has a great advantage to have nature everywhere, no way to be stressed when you have the presence of Nature everywhere you go in the city!!!

You will only find these places if you go to the Christ by car!!! Some of the unique places that my so dear friend Rafa knows and I am learning each lesson!;)

Graffiti Hunt!
You know, I wasn't too big on it, despite being an artist myself, until I came to Rio. I was inspired from one of my friends I was traveling with in Rio to make an album of graffiti works from around the world. And what better way to start then in Rio? You know, Rio has quite a lot of talent when it comes to painting on walls. You gotta wonder how they spent so much time crafting these awesome pieces of work?! Some are pretty damn incredible. And unlike in America, no one tags over them with their own gang signs (well at least not a whole lot anyways) or messes them up to where it looks crappy. When you're exploring Rio take some time to take some photos of these amazing works! Some pieces have themes ranging from politics to love, others are just there just to be there.

buzios
buzios is about a 2 hr. busride from rio. it's a place to go relax on a quiet beach, mostly inhabited by other south americans and europeans. buzios has upscale shops, restaurants, a hip and bustling nightlife but an old town mistique. it has cobblestone streets, artisan workshops, and local people who want to sell you a room in their house for a night. bring sunblock! i ran out and a bottle cost me over $20!! i could not find it for less in any store.
there are boat rides that take you on a tour of the surrounding islands. this ride includes diving off the boat at 1/2 hr. intervals, tanning if it's sunny, and lunch. drinks are expensive. these rides can be the best times you will have while in brazil, but let me warn you ..... the hosts may sometimes offer you a video taping. i wouldn't do this. the last and only one i bought was 45 minutes of late 80's footage of rio with about 10 minutes of wet-lensed shaky footage of me, my significant other, and people i don't even remember being on the trip....mostly large women applying tanning lotion to eachothers' bodies...if you're into that.
don't pay more than $25 for these tours, and make sure you go on a weekday or you will be sharing the boat with one two many macdonald's birthday parties.
do go to the beaches! and get there early. they fill up quickly.
lastly, expect to pay about $90 a night during high season.

itacoatiara beach
if you get a chance, take a ferry boat to niteroi which is the city right across the bay. when you get there you can go to the museum of modern art which personally was very boring, but if thats your thing go ahead. you can take the 38 bus to itacoatiara beach. it is not filled with so many people like copa or ipanema, and is very nice. there are a bunch of little fish restaurants all across the beach and the fish is great!!! and very cheap... it was a luxury meal that was 7 dollars, which in the US would have been around 20 dollars. i did a lot of walking on the coast of niteroi and you can find many nice beaches as you walk like i did.
