Base Naval Almirante Castro e Silva (Submarines)

Submarines of Base Naval Almirante Castro e Silva

I'm not sure how frequently this is accessible by the public, but if you cross the bridge between Rio and Niteroi, you will see the submarine base (just before you reach the toll booth on the bridge).

The submarine base was started in 1941 and is still in operation. If you are lucky you may see some of the submarines in the bay as they go out for practice runs and exercises.

Oscar Niemeyers museum of Contemporary Art.

Niterói Contemporary Art Museum is one of the more interesting buildings in Rio de janeiro state.
It´s located in Niteroi which is Rio´s quiet neighbour where not many tourists venture over to, but it´s not that far and the musem is worth the trip if you are in to Contemporary Art or architecture as the building is rather odd and very Niemeyer and kinda looks like a spaceship overlooking the sea.

    Special lights in Niteroi

If you look to the lands in the other side of the sea...specially when you are in Copacabana and you see some mountains faraway and you wonder that it must be islands...

No, it is not an islands....these lands belong to Niteroi.

And Niteroi has hidden beauties that can give you great surprises in any trip of Rio.

This picture was taken at Parque da Cidade, a hill in São Francisco where people do paraglyding!

Downtown Niteroi from the Bus Terminal - RTL

The Estação das Barcas is right located in the city centre of Niteroi, from there you can take buses to many different neighborhoods in the city, if you go there by bus, the Bus Terminal is right beside the shopping center Bay market, it is a huge construction where all the buses of Niteroi and São Gonçalo, and other closeby cities, have their final stop.

Crossing the bay if you take the regular ferry just like this one in the picture, will cost you less than one dollar!

Yes...Once again Niteroi, if you cross the Bay by Ferry, and if you choose the weekend to do it, you should check at the Bay Market shopping center where is the place where you can get booked for a boat tour around the bay, it is a local place so the price will be really cheap.

For sure you will be able to see different views of this fascinating city called Rio de Janeiro!

Specially in the peak hours, the best way to reach Niteroi is by ferryboat, the famous Barcas. Niteroi is the second largest city in the State, and it is a big interrogation mark for our visitors!;)

I am not living in Niteroi anymore, but I have been in this city for 22 years, it is an spectacular love affair which still lives in my heart, that is why, going to Niteroi is a great moment to me, and today I went to Piratininga Beach to show our beauties to my friend Rodrigo, who is in Rio studying tourism and will accept Rio as his homeland!;) I am very proud to be the one who convinced him to come and I am very happy to tell him anything about Niteroi and my whole State!

Piratininga is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Ocean Side of Niteroi.

Going there is not easy, you will have to take a ferryboat from Rio and a bus which pass through many confusing neighborhood of Niteroi, so you should study the city very well, or simply find someone you know in the city, and you can have a great day together to discover the secrets of this wonderful town, which is not far away from Rio de Janeiro city!

    Rafael at Praio de Piratininga

In the colonial time, the fields of Piratininga in Niteroi was a big farmland owned by Cristovão Monteiro, lots of sugar cane plantation and coffe, after that it became an important fishing centre, and it seems to be like that until nowadays, today it is also a holiday destination for the cariocas and one very important neighborhood of Niteroi City. It is part of the incredible ocean beaches of Niteroi, and it is faraway from every travelogs you might see when you plan your visit to Rio de Janeiro!

The Mac - Magic Construction of our State

Niteroi is also very scenic, there are many other places in Niteroi that you can see, but what makes Niteroi famous is the Contemporary Museum, in my opinion the attraction is the MUSEUM itself, but it is still one of my favourtite spots in the city for photography.

If you are professional or if you are much more into photography than I, I would love to read your opinion!

The Museum was constructed in 1996, and the construction took 5 years to be ready!;)

The present and a future view of a genius by RTL

My heart is there...Niteroi is still one of the great surprises when you visit Rio.

One of the most impressive attractions of this city is the Modern Art Museum, which here we call Contemporary Art Museum.

I do love photography and everytime I go there with my friends, I get the opportunity to practice my skills. And if you love taking pictures I strongly recommend you to go there, you can let your imagination flow there!

And one of the biggest names of our National's Architecture History, oscar Niemeyer signed his name in the the construction of this museum, which provides a breathtaking view of the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Niteroi.
