 | Rio de Janeiro Restaurants | Tips 1 - 10 of 433 | | On many corners you'll see juice stands. Make sure you stop and try the fresh juice. They blend even grape juice right after you order it. My favorite is the pineapple juice (acabaxi: I know I didn't spell it right). Plus, try some of the snacky food there. You won't be disappointed. PS. It's also a very cheap and heathly snack. Wonderful Churrascaria. One of the best in my opinion. Great meat, service, and atmosphere. Also had a great salad bar with everything you can imagine (sushi, breads, cheese, salads, soup, etc). They charge you for each drink so it does add up. Worth going to at least once for the experience.

This is wonderful food in a great atmosphere. Order the lunch special or pick and choose between different plates. This is a great place for lunch, dinner, or meeting up for beers.
A must have is the feijoada. They do dishes of the day where they select certain dishes for the customers to choose from. The feijoada is usually served on the weekends. Feijoada is Brazil´s national dish, and also Rio´s most famous. This mouthwatering meat and bean casserole is served at almost every restaurant and at every family gathering. The diva of Rio´s dishes (and also Brazil´s national dish) was originally made out of leftovers to feed slaves. Feijoada requires lengthy preparation, usually a social activity with several family members milling around the kitchen. It is a delicious casserole consisting of black beans and a variety of dried, salted meats, which benefits from slow cooking and/or reheating. It may be prepared ahead of time and is traditionally eaten on Saturdays. Feijoada is actually the main ingredient of a meal consisting of 7 dishes. It should be served with farofa, arroz Brasileiro (white Brazilian rice), hot pepper and lime sauce, couve (kale greens) and slices of fresh orange. Farofa (that I mentioned above ) is toasted cassava meal which accompanies nearly all Brazilian main courses. The basic flour is available from grocers as farinha de mandioca (manioc flour). Melted butter can be used as an alternative to dendê oil (palm oil). The flour is simply fried lightly in the melted butter until both ingredients are fully combined to form a rich yellow color and a texture, which melts in your mouth. Additional ingredients can be added, such as raisins, nuts and dried sausage. The menu says that this dish is for 2 but it can easily feed 4. The restaurant is smaller and quainter then many. It has a small back patio where smoking is allowed and an indoor section with air conditioning and no smoking. The atmosphere is also amazing. It's a mix of friends getting together and lovers. It's a bit of an older scene so if you want some place to get drunk and loud don't go there (unless you reserve the upstairs patio out back).
I LOVE the Caldinho de Feijao (the sauce from the beans) and Provolonia a milanesa (It's fried Provolone.) Plus you have to have a Caipirinha. It's one of the best you can find. One last tip for food, you can basically get anything and be happy, the food is amazing. Another great Churrascaria. While there isn't quite as big of a selection of extras, the meat and the service are just as good. There's usually a line on Sunday but it goes quickly so put your name on the list!
Chicken hearts again. No matter where I go! lol Leave a Comment

Very good food and a very different taste from those in Rio. Go to the hippie fair (I speak about it on my Rio page) and try some of their food.
I would take one of everything. If you have to pick one, pick the acaraje. Yes, they eat the shell of the shrimp so dig in and eat it right! Leave a Comment

This restaurant is a pleasant surprise, a small place almost hidden in a inner small street of Leme, not far from the Hotel Meridien. Formed from the collaboration of two maître d's, Antonio Salustiano and Candido Alves, and a sommelier, Walmir Pereira. None of the three is Italian; in fact, they all come from the northeast of Brazil. It is considered indeed the 3rd best Italian restaurant in Rio. I do not go there as much as I would like to because it is kind of expensive if you live under Reai$ rule$... :-)) At lunch time, mostly a meeting point for businessmen - a discrete and quiet place for business meetings. At night, the small place is really taken by couples or groups of friends interested in enjoying the quietness and the great food. So... reservation is required. For more than 25 years this Trattoria has been a great place to have a good pasta without emptying your pockets. It has the "spirit" of Copacabana. A meeting point to all kind of "tribes" from families to artists and nearby located tourists. As a good italian family, all the owner's family is there. Welcoming you at the door or just all together having a meal. Talking to the customers --- so much of them just become friends as the years go by... The only thing is that they do not accept credit cards....
A good garlic bread as a starter... Every year there is a "truffles season" festival. Signore Mario, the owner goes to Italy and bring them. I like the agnolotti filled with cheese topped with truffles oil. The shrimps are also good. Leave a Comment Theme: ItalianComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: Rua Fernando Mendes, 7/Lj. This is a stand up bar. Go in, the guy will come over and point or tell the man what you want. Most likely, you won't be able to get a seat so just stand at the counter. It's quick, it's cheap, and it's yummy. You can't lose!
You must try Esfihas. These little triangle sandwich things are amazing. They have them filled with cheese or with meat. Eat them solo or add lemon juice for some tang. Also, try some fresh juice with it. I like Pineapple juice (suco de abacaxi) It goes very well together! This is a branch of the Confeitaria Colombo. Not the beautiful building as in downtown one, but this place is great as well. Located at the Copacabana Fort, it offers the most beautiful view of Copacabana Beach. Leave a Comment
