Santa Satisfacao: A Perfect Caesar Salad & Fantastic Pasta

by MulattaCarioca Written Jun 27, 2005

This place is just downstairs from an apartment we rented, on Rua Santa Claire. It provides (what seems like 24hour) service early in the morning til late at night. The best thing about it, you can get a hearty salad big enough & authentic to make you not think you're missing out on the things you might miss from home. The caesar salad is so good we actually had it for breakfast a few mornings. The pasta with grilled chicken and mushrooms was so tasty that we kept circling the block waiting for the cafe to open one Sunday morning. The waitstaff doesnt speak English, but the menu is provided in Portugues and English and service is speedy. This is a perfect place to have your morning coffee and meet some friendly locals.

Favorite Dish: The caesar salad is made from scratch. The chicken is perfectly seasoned and shredded by hand. Each piece of lettuce is dressed lightly in succulent dressing and comes in a full or half order.

The pasta dishes are ALL delightful, from the mushroom penne to the grilled chicken alfredo. Its a relief not to have to go to an 'italian' restaurant when you simply want a quick plate of pasta done right.

The cafe comes in regular AND decaf (most coffee in brasil is only made in regular) and is always perfectly brewed. Better yet, you can get a -creme de chantilly - a little dollop of freshly whipped cream to go on top of your dreamcup and start or seal your day with the essence of Brasil.

Great atmosphere and fresh inspired food. Great salads. Vegetarian friendly, though many dishes have meat or fish, there's a refreshingly strong focus on using fresh vegetables in the food.
