 | Rio de Janeiro Shopping | Tips 1 - 10 of 128 | | I still regret I did not buy one. There is a street market along Copacabana beach where you can find a wide variety of hammocks. The prices vary but you could by a decent one for about 100 reals which is about USD 33. Leave a Comment Theme: Local CraftAddress: Copacabana, Street Merchants

This mall has everything from all the best in women's clothes, men's clothes, to furniture. It also has a good food court, great shoes, and a movie theater.
A bikini for the ladies. You have to have a Brazilian bikini. Shoes. Jeans. I have found my best jeans in Rio and at a fraction of what I would pay here. Leave a Comment

When in Rome... Go out and buy one of the bikinis you'll ever buy at a fraction of what you would normally pay. Yes, they are a lot smaller then you are used to but go out and show it off. You're in Rio! Nothing makes you stand out more then a huge bikini bottom
Go to Rio Sul or to one of the many shops on the streets of Ipanema. You can also buy suits on the beach but I say go into the shop. It can run to $US 10 to $US 30 which is nothing. These suits are not only cute but keep their shape and color much longer the US brands.
Normal would be 40 to 70 reais can be more or less depending ($US 10 to $us30) Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: EverywhereDirections: Ipanema shops, Rio Sul, can also find in Copacabana

It is like a one of our drug/novelty type stores. You can get candy, snacks, and sometimes groceries there. You can also get your havaianas (Brazilian flip flops), undies, shampoo, diapers, toys, makeup, etc. It is easy shopping. Go in, grab your stuff, and get in line. The lines can get kind of long but there are usually lots of cashiers and they move fast so don't worry.
Havaianas, personal care items, snacks, big chocolate eggs at Easter, etc.
Not bad pricing. Average amount for just about everything. Maybe a little lower then private stores Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: All over teh place in RioDirections: They are everywhere. In Rio Sul, on the street, everywhere.

This is what is typically worn by Cariocas on the beach. If you want to blend, it's what you need, if not, no worries.
Speedo with the thick sides. Get a cool color and walk with pride!
Anything between 30 to 60 reais depending on brand etc. Leave a Comment Theme: Men's ClothesAddress: Ipanema stores, Copacabana, Rio Sul

The Hype Feira (hippie fair) is a great outdoor market where you can find leather goods, jewlery, clothes, trinkets. etc. I even had some tasty corn from the street vendor and I'm still alive to tell the story.
Bargain..No price is set in stone here. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Salinas is smart. Their store is small, with a chic boutique-type feel and their bikinis are displayed in all their glory against crisp white walls. The quality of the fabric IS great. Everyone was right. And the fit... well, it's hot. I'm converted.
OK, so yes, everyone and their mother (well maybe not their mother!) is telling you, when in Rio, buy bikinis. At the same time they're telling you how much more skimpy/revealing they are. I had my doubts. UNTIL I entered the Salinas store in Ipanema and fell head over heels in love with the cuts, colors and patterns of these Rio-based gems. And the price- well, you can order some of Salinas' styles from Victoria's Secret for $100-$125 a pop. In Rio, they were $100 REAL. So, about $38? And the selection was fantastic.
roughly $40 per bikini Leave a Comment Theme: Women's ClothesAddress: 547/204 Rua Visconde de Pirajá, 011-55Phone: 21-2274-0644

In the Emporio Tropical, which is in the Chacara Tropical, you will find objects elaborated by Brazilian handicraft experts who enrich popular art. The wood and other raw materials taken from nature pass through the able hands of these artists and are transformed into beautiful works of art.
Hard to say... The wood and clay pieces are my favourites, but everything else is great. Pay special attention to the chairs and benches - very beautiful work. While in Rio we went to both Rio Sul and the São Conrado Fashion Mall. My thoughts.... Rio Sul is crowded, lively, several floors of all sorts of shops very similar to a mall in NYC. Shops are a good deal for those of us coming from the U.S. or Europe. There are many many food options here and there is a movie theater. We had lunch at a nice little sandwich/salad place in the middle of the mall called Miss Baton, I recommend it! There are free transfers to Rio Sul from many Copacabana hotels. Otherwise it's like a 5 minute cab ride from Copa. The address is Av. Lauro Müller 116. The Web site is: www.riosul.com.br We also visited the São Conrado Fashion Mall which features two inside floors and an upper somewhat outside floor of extremely posh/high end shops. For instance, Emporio Armani, Ermenegildo Zegna, Kenzo, and Petit Lippe. We were in one store, Chocolate something or another and a pair of men's Earl Jeans were going for around $300+ when converted from reals. This mall isn't for the budget conscious. But it's beautifully laid out and has some nice restaurant choices and a movie theater. We took a cab to this mall too. Address: Estrada da Gávea 899 We didn't make it to Barra Shopping as it's pretty far out from Rio but it's supposed to be quite good too. Located at Barra da Tijuca- Av. das Américas 4666 www.barrashopping.com.br
I found jewelry to be priced well in Rio, you must buy bikinis, flip flops, great samba CDs... It never occurred to me that all the clothes in the shops would be in preparation for Fall when we went in April (duh!). That was a disappointment for my shopaholic self as I wasn't about to buy sweaters and suede going into our summer here in Florida. Oh well! :-)
Much less than you do in the States or Europe for the most part. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

There are a handful of cool little boutiques and surf shops along Rua Francisco Otaviano in the Arpoador area of Rio worth checking out. This area is right between Copacabana and Ipanema.
We ended up in Draco where Tim bought a really hip Rio T-shirt (with a cool font as I'm trying to show you in the image here) and I, a little wooden saint necklace. You can buy surf boards, bathing suits, men's casual clothing, women's boutique-type clothing, flip flops, etc. etc. in this little area.
Prices are totally fair. Leave a Comment Theme: Men's ClothesAddress: DRACO Rua Francisco Otaviano 55A
