Hippie Fair opens every Sunday , begins at about 10PM, located at General Osorio Square, on Rua Visconde de Pirajá at the northern end of Ipanema, right below Arpoador. Just 2 small blocks away from the beach. It's a good place to shop for sounvenirs in Ipanema. The square is not very big but you could easily spend 2 , 3 hours there looking for interesting items. There are also vendors selling drinks, juices, and food. The bald soccer guy would be standing at one corner as well showcasing his control skills. I suspect he's the same guy who appeared on Amazing Race a while back. Things you can find there: bracelets, necklaces, various unset semi precious gem stones, gold/silver/metal jeweleries, soccer team T shirts, leather goods, leather furnitures, purses and handbags of various material, paintings, wood crafted floor/table/wall art piece. If you are planning to get a mini statue of Christ The Redeemer, you shall find loads of them there. Try to get there early, it got crowded fairly quickly the day we visited. Interesting items that I saw : paper made miniature themed rooms, such as computer rooms, DJ booth, Kitchen, office...etc. Very detailed. And jacket/vests made from recycled fabric, I'm not kidding. I wanted to get one but wife veetoed that.... ah, next time :D Don't forget to bargain. Some smaller items were price listed, as for bigger ones , you may get more than 50% off if you try talking it down. I was looking at a brass wall piece with no price stickered. I asked the price just out of curiosity and got 100R, but the vendor said she would give it for 90R. So I said thanks and walked away. While I continued doing rounds at the fair, the vendor approached me no less than 3 more times and the final price was 30R.
various souvenirs, small to large furniture size.

by midnight_mike Late in the evening, artists and street vendors set up shop along Avenida Atlantica across from Copacabana. It is just as romantic, in my opinion, to strolling past the street vendors near the Seine River in Paris. You can buy anything from paintings to t-shirts to Amazonian jewelry. You can even buy a mounted piranha, which will blend in with any decor! Even if shopping is not a priority, "window shopping" will be more than a satisfying experience. Even if you don't buy a painting, the artists appreciate the attention you are giving to their work.
This is a great place to buy original art. If you buy it unframed, the painting can be rolled up into a tube. It is also a great place to buy soveneirs. Theme: Local CraftDirections: Across from Copacabana, along Avenida Atlantica. Most of the shops are set up on the walkway in the middle of the street. Some vendors, many of whom are unlicensed, set up on the other side of the street.

If you're into antiques and art then this is the place for you. This shopping centre contains over 70 antiques shops and 5 art galleries along with about 200 other shops. I came here because I heard there were a few record shops which are located on the 1st floor. The shopping centre isn't the most attractive place on earth but is quite querky and has some off-the-beat type of shops as well as a 24hr supermarket where I bought a friend some cheap cigarettes. Inside Pão de Açucar by RTL by RafaelTheSecond The Grocery is very well located, it is in the end of Copacabana beach, one block from the coast, and it is not so far from Ipanema! I also took some photos inside of the grocery, note, it is VERY forbidden to take pictures, but these digital cameras with no flash performs miracles, don't you think???? As you can see the place is complete and something important, it is a LOCAL ENVIROMENT...IT MEANS..NO TOURIST PRICES!!!! There are place s where they charge double when they realize you are an outsider!!! IT NEVER HAPPENS IN LOCAL GROCERIES IN RIO!!! :) So keep that in mind...Local Groceries are the best optios for some small shoppings!;) June 19th, 2006 Leave a Comment Theme: Food and DrinkDirections: It is right in the corner with Francisco Sá Street with Nossa Senhora de Copacabana Avenue, for you it is easier to remember when you refer it as Copacabana Avenue.

Havaianas are absolutely great, always regret not buying more. First of all, they are everywhere, on the street corners, in small shops in larger stores, really everywhere (I stayed in Ipanema, but I'm sure they are just as widely available closer to Copacabana). There are some knock-offs (I bought a pair by mistake), but they cost the same and have the same style, but they don't have the name 'havaianas' on them... So they are easy to spot, I made a really stupid mistake, but hey I'm still wearing them and they're just as comfy. The price ranges from about $5 to $10 if I remember correctly (that was about a year ago). In South Africa they pretty much always cost about $25, so for me that was a very good price... Enjoy your trip!!! Theme: Shoes

Zona Sul at Francisco Sá St. by marcbrazil First it s the best place to have breakfast!!! Yes indeed!!! Very soon I will post a tip in this regard as a RESTAURANT TOPIC, Zona Zul has a bi variety of food for breakfast, in every store you can have a place specially made for you to eat and drink! Actually it is the most completely supermarket that you can find either in Copacabana or Ipanema! The one I usually go is located at POSTO SEIS, in the end of Copacabana Beach, corner with Francisco Sá Street and Nossa Senhora de Copacabana Avenue! As I told you, we always need to buy anything at the Grocer, so close by your place there will be a ZONA SUL! OCTOBER 2007 Theme: OtherAddress: FRANCISCO SÁ STREETDirections: Corner with Nossa Senhora de Copacabana Avenue, very close to the ebach as well!;)

Rio is a real shopping paradise. Anything you may want is there. Compare to Europe the prices are pretty reasonable. Nice and trendy shops on ipanema. There is also a very nice stylish shop there 'Gilson Martins'. If you want to buy special accesories Gilson Martins is deffinately a place to visit. Very stylish and high quality hand bags, luggages, wallets, necklaces, hats, cd cases. All of them are unique, modern. I bought a leather luggage Brasilian flag on from there. After a moth later, while I was going home I remember at least 5-6 different people telling me how nice the luggage is during my flight. Of course prices were a bit different then the other shops but now I believe I have something special from Rio.
I stayed almost 2 months and I didnt bring 'anything' to Brasil. Even not a t-shirt and underwear. I had planned to shop there. So during 2 months I bought 3 big, 1 small size luggages of cloths, fabrics, presents, accessories. Any Gilson Martins products... Clothes from Sketch shops through the country (It may sound stupid to buy a suit from Brasil for a Turkish guy -Turkey is a textile paradise- BUT THEY ARE VERY HIGH QUALITY AND CHEAP! www.sketch.com.br Traditionaly designed Handmade fabrics, 10000000s of t-shirts from BR111 shops...
Depends on what you want to buy. I stayed almost 2 months and I didnt bring 'anything' to brasil. Even not a t-shirt. I had planned to shop there. So during 2 months I bought 3 big, 1 small size luggages of cloths, fabrics, presents, accessories. by ginguba I like to shop. A lot. I'm not proud of it, but can't help it... When i go to some foreign country one of the things i love to do is to check out the different looking shops! Being a designer i'm very drawn to different, irreverent kind of clothes and accessories. I found this shop at a mall and it was love at first sight... They have beautiful, colorful accessories, and not expensive at all (at least if comparing that kind of objects here in Lisbon!) Had to buy a bracelet to myself and to my mum as a souvenir ;) Leave a Comment
