The sun sets over Rio at Arpoador

On my first day in Rio, after a nice little swim at Ipanema Beach, we decided to go watch the sunset at Arpoador. It turned out to be a good idea! Arpoador offers a great view of the sunset in an idyllic setting. One on side, you got the sand and surf of Ipanema Beach, and the other the Atlantic Ocean. The best part is it's free! This would be a perfect place to spend with your girl over a bottle of wine. On the day we went there were lots of people there taking pictures so they too much appreciate a good sunset. If you're looking for a way to relax then this is the place to go.

The rocks of Arpoador by RTL

The rocks are huge and it si a great spot for diving, people also jump to water in its cliffs. As you know, in the 20s people used to apoon whales from there, this why the name ARPOADOR. Now the whales are completely safe in Brazil and Arpoador is the best place for a fabulous sunset!

These stairs were built long years ago!;)

Surfing is part of Rio's daily life

Everything is a reason for leisure in Rio, the cariocas from the Zona zul when they hear the weather broadcast..they all run to Arpoador, where the waves are high, and you will find many surfers!;)

Arpoador is for sure one of the most important spotting for surfing in Rio de Janeiro!

    THE RESSACAS IN ARPOADOR

Waves beating the rocks of Arpoador!;)

Very common in the winter, the ressaca happens when a "cold front" comes, generally when we have storms the sea gets very tough, and this is what we call ressaca. Most visitors who come to Rio, they stay in the southern side of the city, a região that we call ZONA ZUL and that includes the neighborhood, of Leme, Copacabana, Arpoador, Ipanema and Leblon, so reaching the rocks in the beggining of Ipanema is not difficult, all you have to do is walking. The view is spectacular and it will get even better when you see how big the waves are, and the surfers celebrate such a gift from Nature!

The nature's cleaning service at Arpoador by RTL

The wind is quite cool, the rocks are wet so the risk to stumble and fall are obvious...you really have to find a perfect place in the rocks for your most perfect pictures, but you will always suceed..and the last thing is having pacience, and VOILÁ...you will have a very unusual shot of Arpoador....

The view of Praia do Diabo in Arpoador Rocks by RT

I have a very busy life style, I give lots of assistence tomany friends who visit us, and I write some articles to many travelling sites and my life style is very busy, I have my commitmments, work , friends, taking care of the house and my professional life as well as my social life is basically absolutely busy, but it worths when you feel that the sea is rough and the sky absolutely starry so you quickly feel that the sun rise will be spectacular.

Just let me know if I was right to be up very early in the morning to see the first hours of a new day,..

Arpoador is a little neighborhood which is located between Copacabana in what we call Posto 6 and the beggining of Ipanema, if you follow the coast line you will see Arpoador, when you reach Ipanema just turn left or get through the Park GAROTA DE IPANEMA, and simply climb up the rocks and you will see one of the most perfect shows in your life.

This is a rock formation between Ipanema and Copacabana, where you can see beautiful Ipanema and Barra on one side, and Copacabana and a little bit further the Sugar Loaf on the other. Come on a Sunday when the streets of Ipanema and Copacabana are closed and you can walk for miles.

Arpoador is vaguely defined by an area between the streets of Rainha Elizabeth and Francisco Bhering. It includes two beaches, a park overlooking the ocean and some of Rio's most desirable apartment buildings. Arpoader has a large rock formation which offers views of Ipanema and Leblon on one side, and Copacabana and Leme on the other.
