The zoo (founded in 1888) at Quinta da Boa Vista, behind the natural history museum is well worth a visit. There are over 2,500 animals distributed in different areas according to their geographical origin including many Brazilian animals of which several are endangered species. As you walk in the entrance there's a large walk-in aviary that contains noisey parrots and to the left there are many different species of large cat such as lions, linx, tigers etc.

Rio's Zoo and The Fauna Museum are also located in Quinta Da Boa Vista.
The park in Quinta is a large area used for recreation during the weekends,when many kids visit the Zoo.
