Explore Teresópolis

Things to Do

Vila Cecilia

Vila Cecilia, Teresópolis

DSwede Says:  Vila Cecilia was built in the early 1920's. Its classic architecture sets it apart from much of the other central buildings in the area which to me have little character, so it is nice to see such old styles well kept and refurbished. It has in the past functioned as the...

Matriz de Santa Tereza

Matriz de Santa Tereza, Teresópolis

DSwede Says:  Located in the heart of the old town, the main church is a landmark hard to miss. It is relatively small in comparison to those in nearby cities, but its size matches that of Teresopolis perfectly. Its pointed steeple is typical of the colonial times and influences. It was...

Calçada da Fama: Pedestrian Street Shops

Calçada da Fama: Pedestrian Street Shops, Teresópolis

DSwede Says:  The Calçada da Fama (Walk of Fame) is not like the one you'd think of in Hollywood, but it is rather a popular street with shops and street vendors. There are lots of boutiques selling clothes, lots of shoe stores, a few beauty salons, etc. The pedestrian street is always...

For the interesting in long tracks or *all by
myself * tracks: it's not a shame to admit that the place requests a map and even more than one and PREVIOUS look at it
( for long tracks--pls do not start checking the map at the park itself!!!Even if you're a tourist from other countries, maps are available in all languages I can remember, and the good hotels in Rio should have plenty of information at the councierge desk!!)
The park offers splendid cristal water at its waterfalls and cascades along the tracks BUT..the big storms are very frequent in this area, and it can happen very sudden, and, when it happens, the water coming from the high parts of the mountains, flows down the ways in such power that many tragedies occured here!!
If the weather is unstable,it'll be better not to swin in the cascades or small lakes and even not to approach those areas!!!

Favorite thing: The name Teresopolis was given to the village in hounour of Empress Teresa Cristina, wife of emperor Don Pedro II.
The treasures of this place are its nature and also its rich gastronomy experience!!
Teresopolis is the higher city in the state of Rio (910 m heigh ).
The National Park ( *Dos Orgaos* )brings to the area tourists from Brazil and abroad, specially those who apreciate the fauna & flora so characteristic of the Atlantic Forest.
The people from Rio use to go to Teresopolis & Petropolis in the winter, the only oportunity we have to dress some kind of winter clothes.
For those looking for a romantic honey moon,it's definately the place!
PICTURE:Dedo De Deus.

Fondest memory: We used to celebrate my birthday there, and it always reminds me when all the family were together!
