General Tip on Maps vs. Guides - LP @ 451F

by peace_prevails

I always find that Lonely Planet is more of a hindrance than a help. IMHO, you should burn your guide and invest your money in maps and language guides. You always have a richer experience. The first rays of sun peeking.... god that was cliché.... no one experience.

Don't smoke

by NedHopkins

A difference between the US and Brazilian -- or Anglo-Saxon and Latin -- approaches to discouraging smoking is revealed in this photo. In the US government protects tobacco growers and merchants by requiring only a small warning on each package of cigarettes. It imposes penalties on individual smokers by levying huge taxes. In Brazil the government defies the tobacco people and requires a realistic and horrific picture and message -- on the back of every cigarette package -- illustrating one of the diseases or damages caused by smoking.

The Wild Amazon Forest

by pedroccr

Everyone must one day in life visit the lungs of the world, the Amazon Forest! This amazing place has the greatest biodiversity of the worl, it´s just amazing. Besides this variety of animals and plants, you will also find diferent indigenous culture. The Brazilian indians are very receptive! They show you their rituals and many other attractions. To be part of it is really a unique experience, don´t miss it. My best memory in Brazil is the friends I make there. Even with all the political problems that this country suffers, it's people is extremelly happy and receptive. They will charm you as they have charmed me!When you go there, look for Biosfera Brasil, a eco-social travel agency www.biosferabrasil.com

IN BRAZIL: Don’t forget to do…

by Capitao

- Let the Brazilian happiness contaminate you. The Brazilians are very relaxed, informal and warm. Some foreign people may feel invaded sometimes. However, let you to be contaminated by the receptiveness, good humor and rhythm of the Brazilian people. It is contagious…- Ask for a right window seat leaving from Rio- The Brazilian music is very diversified and happy. It is a good soundtrack to make your trip even better. - Learn how to dance local music- Try not to look too tourist… People using huge cameras, jewelry and acting like being lost attract the pickpockets. Like everywhere, avoid empty places in big cities. Remember the slogan: don't be a tourist, be a traveler… I have many good memories from Brazil, but 2 are specials:1) The first guittar accord from the Camaleao truck during the carnival in Salvador - Bahia (2002).2) The pinck dolphin ballet at the Negro River in Amazon...

Climate

by tini58de

Brazil is a country with about 90 percent in the tropical zone. But since it is so large, you find many different climates there from humid to moderate to really hot. And for us Europeans we must not forget, that Brazil's seasons are just opposite ours, so they have summer in December!!!

Places of interest

by tini58de

The most interesting places to visit in Brazil include Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo or the old colonial town of Ouro Preto. For natural beauty, try a visit to Iguacu Falls - it is well worth it! More destinations (for my future trips) definitely include the Amazon, Salvador de Bahia and the orphanage MDC near Sao Paulo!!!
