    There are few asphalt roads on Fernando de Noronha, and only one seven km stretch of highway running the length of the island. Most other roads are dirt, or in a few cases, paved with grapefruit-sized stones. The best way to get to the various beaches and points of interest is to rent a dune buggy. The cost is equivalent to about US$30/day.

    You can fly to Noronha from Recife or from Natal. The only carrier is Nordeste, affiliated with Varig. This means that there's no pressure from competition to keep fares down, so be prepared. If you are traveling from outside Brazil and can get a good price on a Star Alliance ticket to enter Brazil, you are eligible for the Brazil Air Pass. This pass gives you a number of segments for a fixed price, around $500 US. You can use this for your trip to Noronha and back, and even if you throw away the remaining segments, you will most likely be ahead financially.

    In the archipelago,try to book a dune-buggy trip around the place,it's a day trip when the guide takes you to all hot sites in the archipelago,it really makes one's life easier (we wanted to,but we were late and the guy left us behind!!!
    Walking around by yourself depends on where you stay!
    Besides,you can rent your own dune-buggy (buggy rentals are about U.S.70 a day)

    From Recife,we took a flight from a small company called "NORDESTE",what is a codeshare company with Varig(the official brazilian airline).
    If you are coming from another countries,you can buy an air-pass fromVarig,what I really recomend,because flying within Brazil can be very expensive,besides,with an air-pass there is no weight limits!
    The flight took one hour and fifteen minutes,beverages and a hot-meal were served (we took the early afternoon flight,we had a lunch).
    The price we paid was U.S. 325.00,quite expensive for an hour flight, the weight limit was 15 kilos,and to pay for extra weight is a reality in this situations,who can have a bagagge up to 15 kilos to a trip like that?!
    Upon arrival,you will receive some forms to complete,in order to calculate your stay time,because the CONSERVATION TAX is another reality here(actually,I think more places like Pantanal,must have this taxes too!)
    The tax was,in U.S.dollars,13.50 per day.
    There is a special "discount " for long stays,as the maximum stay,a month.

    You can walk around the place using a track map from the tourist info desk,the tracks take you to some magic corners where you can find out Fernando is not only beaches..

    • A cross motorbike is perfect in Fernando, better than buggy.....
    U have to be able to ride on truly unpaved road, but is good.....

    • Getting around this Island is pretty easy. If you rent a Buggy you can get pratically to everywhere there.

    For 10 reais a day you can pick a fully suspended mountainbike from the rack. Try to pick one with working brakes, suspension, gears or a comfortable saddle. The combination is not available.

    Cycling through the island gives you great satisfaction if you make it to a certain beach. The hills are steap, the sun killing, but the reward is great: a beautiful beach just for you. Most of the beaches I explored this way were for me only. Well, me and this gorgious sea-turtle that is....
