Eye conatact will give you a smile back by cachaseiro If you are talking to a brazilian then look them straight in the eyes. A lot of people will think that you don't like them or that you are not interested in talking to them if you avoid eye contact. This is unlike some other cultures in other parts of the world where staring at people is rude, but in Brazil they like when you look straight at them. If you don't look people in the eyes when you say cheers you get 7 years of bad sex according to some brazilian friends of mine so you better do it :O). Leave a Comment

by acemj Banks throughout Brazil are open from between 10 am to 4 pm or 9 am to 3 pm from Monday through Friday. I also found that my debit card did not work at many ATMs. I had the best luck with Banco do Brasil's machines, but even there you have to look for the individual machines with the ATM networks sticker on it (Star, Cirrus, etc.). by acemj Along the miles and miles of the country's coastline, Brazilians enjoy their beaches. Some beaches are geared for families with places to eat and children playing and others are geared more for adults. You'll find numerous sporting activities including volleyball, foot volleyball, soccer, surfing and many more. Or you can just sit back and enjoy the weather and soak up some sun. Leave a Comment

Capoeira, in Porto Seguro, Bahia by perfectly_zen If you are coming to the northeast of brazil youīll have a great chance to watch a performance of Capoeira outdoors..... Itīs really something you canīt miss....Capoeira looks like a sincronized dance, since the fighters jump in the air, move their arms, clap hands and sing, but itīs actually a fight.... This strange "dance" was created by the slaves during colonization. When they wanted to fight for some reason, they used to pretend to be dancing so that they wouldnīt be punished later... There is usually the background music during the fight, with the sound of "berimbau", a musical instrument that consists in an iron string attached to a long piece of wood and a ceramic pot, making metalic sounds... Youīll find much of this in the state of Bahia, Ceará but itīs actually in all parts of the country.... Leave a Comment

by acemj The national dish of Brazil is feijoada, which originated with African slaves and is essentially a black-bean stew that is served chock full of various meats and accompanied by farofa (manioc flour), orange slices and cabbage. It is traditionally served on Saturdays. Leave a Comment

by acemj There are quite a few beer labels to be discovered in Brazil, although none was particularly outstanding. Skol, Brahma, Antarctica and Bohemia are the major ones that I noticed throughout my journey. I'd recommend just going to a nice outdoor cafe along a beautiful beach and ordering a "chopp" which is simply a draft beer. The prices are cheap and the beer is served cold. Leave a Comment

Fishing boats by perfectly_zen From north to south, the sea has definately played an important role for the brazilian people. Right from the begining, most of the villages were constructed near the coastline, which is one of the longest in the world...Itīs one of the blessings the country has. Apart from the fishermen....most of the people in Brazil loves to spend a day or weekend in the beach...even those who live away (like me ohhhh =( ) manage to escape to the coast during the hollidays... Many even have a second house near the beach....simple or luxurious, it does not matter, they all want the same thing!!! Either for way of living, either for entertainement, the sea is in the heart of every brazilian. =D Leave a Comment

by acemj Perhaps no country on earth loves its football more than Brazil. Five World Cup Championships and an unmatched creative style of play makes watching a game here a treat for any fan. I went to the largest stadium in the world, the Maracana in Rio to watch Flamengo and Vasco play and was not disappointed. The energy and enthusiasm was intoxicating. Leave a Comment

Chilling out while sitting on the bar by cachaseiro Brazil is very casual and laid back. Forget about gucci and rolex and put on your shorts and your thongs (your tanga if you are a girl). The only thing that is compulsory is a positive attitude. Be proud of who you are and smile. That way you are a sure hit in brazil. Leave a Comment

A jangada by cachaseiro The jangada is a little fishing boat made from a few pieces of wood, with a little sail on. It's a very important boat in the history of the north east and you will hear it mentioned in many songs and in many brazilian novels. It's used for fishing and you see it all over the northern coastline. The jangada fishermen are some of the people that has played a big part in creating the spirit of Brazil. Leave a Comment
