It known as Paqueta~. It is a 20 minute ferry ride near Rio de Janiero. The island does not allow any private cars. Only government vehicles.It is a quiet peaceful place to stroll and look at the serene life there. Only one hotel and a couple of eateries
Jericoacoara is the literal definition of "off the beatten path" indeed: this place is really difficult to be accessed! If you come from the citties in the northeast, you´ll have to take a bus to the closest town, Jijoca, passing through the arid terrains of the "sertão", and then take a buggy trip over the dunes for more than an hour to get to the village...Like I said before in the main tips, I got utterly disappointed with Jericoacoara! Maybe because I was expecting, after hours of transportation, what people told me: a secluded village, with idilic beaches, "the most beatiful beach in the world" according to the Times magazine. That´s not what I found in Jeri, in high season....I saw the main beach invaded by bars and tables, with trash over the shore and a busy village, with loads of people... That´s because the impression old visitors have about Jeri is what it used to be......it...
The most beautiful off the beatten path in my opinion! =)Fernando de Noronha is an unique destination in Brazil...there isn´t probably a best spot for divers and nature lovers in the country rather then this delightful place...Now, if you are looking for tremendous parties, big resorts, luxurious confort....Noronha is not for you!Check out more informations and pictures in the Noronha page

A very nice place, with an arch and then a little street, buzy and typically colonial.Its situated on Pra?a XV, on the left side when looking to the Harbour.Its better to get there during the week....for paranoïds.
Took a long walk through the countryside on the last weekend of January 06 and discovered this berries,can not belive how blue they are,tried to get the correct exposure but because not enough sunlight I failed.Been told by a local you die in 20 minutes if you eat one.
Natal is portuguese for 'Christmas' and there is no better time to visit this capital city by the same name, in the northeast state of Rio Grande do Norte. They have large trees of cloth erected next to palm trees in the city centre - songs from the fa?ades of buildings.... a nice place to just sit and people watch as well.
Some of my favorite experiences have been getting out into the rural areas, the interior, the backlands of different states, where there is zero tourist infrastructure. I find the people are even more friendly, the food better and less expensive, and the experience overall richer.Some interesting 'back country' places are:-the backlands of the Northeastern state of Ceará. -interior of SãoPaulo state. -the interior lands of the Southern States-the small island of São Francisco do Sul, Santa Catarina
I did some charity work with this group of orphans under the care of Mae Preta. It was a special part of my trip. She is in her 80's and the essence of strength. Taking care of about 20 or so children in a tiny space and feeding hungry locals. I hired a guide and spent a day shopping for the group and brought goodies from the US as well.
Walking thru Aldea is not only like going back in time a bit, but entering a very natural organic lifestyle. Here is a local poet/artist who I befriended and took several pictures of. He is in a lagoonn near his house. Its an interesting 'backpacking' laid back community that Ive never had a glance at before as I am the hotel/house rental type.
