Lencois Maranhenses

by Capitao

Lençóis Maranhenses National Park is an area of about 300 square kilometers of blinding white dunes and deep blue lagoons, forming one of the most beautiful and unique places in the world. The dunes invade the continent over 50km (31 miles) from the cost creating a landscape that reminds a white bed sheet, when seen from above. The region has little infrastructure for tourism, but Barreirinhas has hotels, hostels, restaurants and handicrafts shops. In the villages it is possible to appreciate the typical food of the region and have contact with its sympathetic people. Wonderful place!!!

Chapada Diamantina National Park

by Capitao

The National Park of the Chapada Diamantina (Diamond Plateau) is one of the most fascinating natural parks of Brazil. The park, established in 1985, contains an extraordinary variety of ecosystems, like Cerrado, Mata Atlantica, and Caatinga, and is the home of many species of plants and animals. In its area you can find different species bromeliads and orchids. What is now a jewel of the ecotourism, was once a refugee of precious stones hunters. The trails opened by the searchers of precious minerals, today works for the enjoyment of hikers and trekkers from around the world. Everything in the Chapada is wonderful, but the waterfalls deserve special attention. The most famous is the Cachoeira da Fumaça, the highest fall in the country, where the water does not have sufficient volume to overcome the drop of 380 meters and the force of the wind cooperates in transforming the water into...

Pico De Nublina National Park

by Mateosh

I organized an expedition here with another friend. This national park is in the north western corner of the Brazalian Amazon and has the tallest mountain in Brazil, Pico De Nublina. This is a wild place with a real frontier atmosphere. We encountered Yanomami hunting parties and all kinds of animals and adventures along the way. In the end we didn;t make it to the top of the mountain. We had to turn back or die. At the time it was hell but in retrospect what a great adventure. I will update photos as soon as I scan my prints digitally.

Support the orphanage

by tini58de

You can support the orphanage by donating money or goods directly to Meu Direito de Crescer orphanage .The most rewarding thing, though, is sponsoring a child in the orphanage - you won't regret it at all!If you like to know more about it, do feel free to contact any of the above people or send me an email!

Plant a tree

by tini58de

The orphanage had just started to build a garden of their own and they have asked the sponsors to help them a little bit with it.From the money I got to cover my expenses for the bone marrow transplant I donated half of it for the garden project and asked them, if they could possibly plant a tree to commemorate the transplant and the thoughts for the Polish girl who is struggeling to survive this illness! On September 13, 2003 children and staff planted an avocado tree on the grounds of the Carolina orphanage - and as a friend told me, they also prayed for Karolina, the Polish girl!I was so touched by these pictures - aren't you, too?

Orphanage Meu Direito de Crescer

by tini58de

Well, I liked Brazil enough to start sponsoring a young man at an orphanage near Sao Paulo. His name is Pedro Paulo and information can be obtained from my travelogue Meu Direito de Crescer - a new home and new hope if you like to get some more personal insight into this wonderful project!

Trail on to the Corcovado

by HansWerner

There is a trail from the Parque Lage going on to the Corcovado. The trail starts in the right corner of the park. Also I was told by an agency that the trail is official closed because it´s crosses the railway line of the train that goes on to the Corcovado there are some people going this way. It´s maybe better in the sense of security if you don´t go alone.

Zoo in Brasilia, Brazil

by gregnascimento

The local zoo in Brazilia is Great! I've taken my daughter there the past 2 times I've been in Brazilia. The entrance fee is a few reals. Definately, you should go to the zoo by car or Taxi. It's pretty spread out and if you plan on walking you will be in for a long day.

The Atlantic Rainforest

by Kili2727

Regardless of how little time you have, seeing the Atlantic Rainforest is a must when you're in Brazil. You don't need a lot of time to see it either. If you're time is short, I recommend just driving down one of the roads that runs threw this wonderful wildlife-filled forest and seeing what you can from you're car or a bus.

Enjoy the tropical rains

by benazer

Just 10 minutes of this tropical rains here would be enough to turn the driest countries of our world into greenery. Many Brazilians are not bothered with it ,all are wearing thin low cut dresses and getting soaking wet, infact it is quite enjoyable,I got very wet yesterday, the gutters could not cope with so much rain so streets were like small rivers,my shoes complately immersed in water I walked ,felt like dancing in the rain song. When I finally arrived home took a shower and strangely enough felt drier under the shower
