Detergent and clothesline (instead of to much clothes - you will have to carry it and luggage is restricted to 20k by most air carriers - i.e. Brazil Air Pass; clothes dry easily overnight in Brazil)
Oropax (noise caused by roosters in the morning, dogs barking at full moon, ventilators inside and outside of your room, small children in the airplain...) Leave a Comment

by acemj Pack light when traveling to Brazil. There's no need to bring your expensive belongings as the country on the whole, is very laid back and casual. Sao Paulo is perhaps the most urban and therefore might require some dressing up, but for the most part, casual is the way to go. The country is also so vast that you'll want to consider the possibility that you'll experience varied weather from city to city.
Brazil has some of the most photogenic landscapes in the world. Rio is a masterpiece on the earth's canvas and is worthy of plenty of film (or space on your memory card). Leave a Comment

by martinelli Something small. Be practical! Don't go carrying your house on your back like a snail!
Depends on where you're going to. but in general, it's a hot country with sudden rain. So it's always good to have a pair of jeans and a pullover. Don't forget confortable open sandals (leather or rubber), sun screen, t-shirts (avoid dark colours, for they absorb the heat).
Band-aids. Bring on the medicines you are used to take, because not all medicines are the same throughout the world and who knows, maybe you are allergic to some of ours. Also I must warn you that in tropical countries taking showers is strictly necessary! One per day is NOT enough! If you go to the beach, take a shower before you go anywhere else. You must always put dehodorant and a LIGHT perfume. I am being very true to you, believe me. You sweat much more here, and the sun provokes stronger odors, so if you don't shower at least twice a day - specially if you went to the beach - no one will stand sitting next to you on a bus. :)
It depends on what your degree in photography is. Just make sure you don't leave your camera on the chair on a bar in the middle of the street, it will be caertainly carried away. A film costs about 4 dollars (colour/36 poses/ iso 100). developing it costs between 6 and 10 dollars. Leave a Comment

Travel guides: For my trip i used the brasil handbook of lonely planet. If you understand portugues a very good guide for the beacches is the 'Quatro rodas: praias'; a guide with a ranking of the beaches, a good roadmap and suggestions for accomdiation and restaurants. You can buy it in e nearly evry bookstore in bigger cities. Leave a Comment

If you go to Brazil for the beaches, then you really don't have to pack much. I lived out of a duffel bag for 10 days and I still brought too much.
Bathing suit (dental floss), a pair of sandals and a hat.
Sunscreen! Us gringo types burn easily. ;) A good insect repellent wouldn't hurt much either. Of course whenever travelling to a warm climate where there is a possibility of bacteria in the water, Pepto and Imodium!
Before going to anyplace in Brazil, check to see if you need a Visa. Citizens of the US and Canada need visas. A waived country list can be found at the link below: Brazil Visa Information Leave a Comment

by Tigris In general, I think the best bag is a backpack. One big for your clothes and so on, and one small for daytrips and passport, tickets and all the really important stuff. Carry this as a handluggage on the planes, buses.. etc.
Bring a ball! A volleyball that can be used both as a ..volleyball and a football. It is a GREAT way to meet locals! Sunscreen of course, especially if you go in the warm season or the north coast, which is not far from Ecvator. If you plan to do some swimming or surfing, get some ear-plugs! There are big waves most of the coastline, and if you get hit by one of those, you might as well find yourself with a clogged ear for the rest of the trip.. Water in the ear is not a good idea when you have a long flight ahead of you either. My eardrum cracked when we were on the plane home (Ouch!!!) :o(
You find drugstores (Farmacías) on nearly every corner.
Don't bring your expencive camera to the beach. Of course it can be stolen, but I am thinking more about avoiding sand into it. Along the coast the wind can get heavy, and acamera is fragile to even the smallest piece of sand. Bring some waterproof single-use cameras! :o)
Buy a hammock if you want to stay outdoors.
A swiss army knife is always handy. And a string for your wet towels and bathing-suits. Put it up across your room! :o) Leave a Comment

Typical brazilian outfit by cachaseiro I would advice to bring as little clothes as possible. The brazilians are very casual, but also very aware of what they are wearing. If you show up in whats really cool in your home country you might very well look like a complete clown in Brazil. My advice is to spend the first week looking at the brazilians and see what they wear and then buy the same. The brazilians wont mind if you look different but you will gain some respect, especially from the opposite sex if you look like them. Leave a Comment
