 | Brazil Restaurants | Tips 1 - 10 of 169 | | churrasco is the national dish of brazil and one big meat feast. it´s basicly grilled meat that is being served in various ways. the witer in a churrasco retaurant will constantly walk around the tables and offer different types of grilled meat. once you have paid for your entry you can eat as much meat as you want. it´s not the cheapest way to eat in brazil but it´s very yummi. you see lot´s of little food stalls in brazil. they mostly serve very nice local food. i have eaten there hundreds of times and never had any stomach problems from that food. one of the reasons i think is that it´s freshly prepared right in front of you so it has not been sitting on some buffet for 2 hours before being consumed. i would certainly recommend eating food from street stall and by doing that you also support hard working people who normally don´t earn much. This sweet is always present in every brazilian birthday party, in all parts of brazil....and to tell you the truth i haven´t met anyone so far who does not like "brigadeiro".... It´s a very practical dessert, you can find it at supermarkets, in cans, at bakeries, parties or on the streets...and it´s incredibly cheap!!! You can try this at your house if you wish...it´s very simple...all you need is a can of condensed milk and chocolate powder for the sweet, and pieces of chocolate to cover it.... Recipe : Put the condensed milk and two to three (i prefer three hehehe) spoons of chocolate powder in a pan.....cook it, never forget to mix it constantly with a spoon, till the milk gets a rough consistence and does not fall from the spoon....wait for it to cool, and later after putting some butter in your hand, make little (or big) balls and cover them with chocolate.... You can always forget the balls and eat it with a spoon at home...=) Leave a Comment Theme: Dessert

That´s a good and cheap option for breakfast: fruits. Brazil is blessed when it comes to fruits...Bananas for example grow along the road, and there are many types of bananas...big, medium, small. "Banana-maçã" (which i think is the best hehehe), "banana-prata", "banana-nanica"... Not to mention mangos, huge avocados, pineapples, and others difficult to find outside Brazil....like papaya, goiaba, pitanga and caju... Papaya is a typical tropical american fruit, very sweet, it has a fragile cover, the fruit itself is very easy to eat....the best papaya is the smallest one, that you can eat with a spoon...there are some black seeds in the middle of the papaya...don´t eat them they don´t taste good... Caju is more common in the northeast, the fruit itself is not good for eating but the juice is very nice, and the toasted caju nuts are wonderful. You can buy bags of them for a cheap price... Maracujá is the world in portuguese for passion fruit, it has an amazing juice... Pitangas are mainly from Brazil, they are little red fruits that look like cherries, their taste is very exoctic... Goiaba is another tropical fruit, the sweet made of goiaba, "goiabada" is really tasty... Some common fruits from the Amazon are açaí and guaraná.Açaí is known to be very energetic, it´s usually consumed as a "sorbet", with bananas. Guaraná is consumed as juice, and there´s also the carbonated beverage made out of guaraná, which in my opinion is much better that pepsi or whatever...=P There are so many others....try them as much as you can!!! "Caipirinha" is the most famous drink from Brazil.....it´s very simple to make, all you need is some lemmons, sugar, ice and the destiled drink from the cane, that has many names but the most common are "aguardente" or "cachaça". Caipirinha is a very fresh, cool drink, usually most consumed at the beach or with "feijoada", another typical plate... About "cachaça", you can buy it along the country, but every state has a different way to do it...one interesting thing is what the people from the northeast do....they berry the destiled drink on the sand, inside a cocconut (then it´s called "coquinho") or a ceramic bottle for some time... There are also shakes with cachaça and passion fruit, kiwi or cocconut you will find for sale at the beach... "Cachaçarias" are pubs specialized in selling cachaça, in all kinds of ways...they usually serve many interesting typical drinks, and a welldone caipirinha...just be careful those drinks will make you dizzy a bit easily, cachaça when consumed pure is very strong...you won´t realize it till you try to get up from the chair...heheheh Leave a Comment Theme: Local

Bob's is acknowledged nationwide in Brazil as a company that sells quality food products with the taste that Brazilians love. Innovation, creativity and quality: These characteristics have distinguished Bob's since the early 1950s, when it was founded by Wimbledon tennis champion Robert "Bob" Faulkenburg. At that time, Brazil was not yet acquainted with the fast food concept, but Bob saw the potential for success in the bustling city of Rio de Janeiro. In 1951, Bob founded Faulkenburg Sorvetes, Ltda., a company that specializing in the sale of machine-made vanilla ice cream created from North American recipes. Encouraged by his friends, Bob opened his first restaurant on Domingos Ferreira Street in 1952. It was there, in the Rio de Janeiro neighborhood of Copacabana, that Bob's first introduced Brazilians to hot dogs, hamburgers, milkshakes and sundaes.By the end of the 1950s, Bob's was a part of the Brazilian and Carioca social scene, serving such celebrities as composer Villa-Lobos and his American friend, jazz musician Booker Pittman, who met every afternoon to savor a Bob's hot fudge sundae. When Bob Faulkenburg returned to the U.S. in 1974, control of Bob's was transferred to Libby do Brasil, - a company that already operated in the food sector and was later acquired by Nestlé.In 1975, Bob's created the "Big Bob," which introduced the concept of meal-sandwiches to Brazil. The chain expanded to São Paulo in 1978, and, in 1987, Bob's was sold to Vendex do Brasil - a Dutch multinational company. In March of 1996, Bob's was sold to Brazil Fast Food Corp., a publicly traded NASDAQ-listed company.Bob's received in1997 the Franchiser of the Year Award from the Assoção Brasileira de Franchising (Association of Brazilian Franchising) in recognition of its consistent support of its franchisees and the ABF's Quality Stamp, an endorsement granted exclusively to companies that excel in the franchising sector. Bob's is now a public company with its shares traded both on the NASDAQ and the BOVESPA stock exchanges.
All points of sale serve a uniform menu of hamburgers, chickenburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, french fries, soft drinks, juices, desserts and milk shakes.I like of a milkshake called "Ovomaltine " with choc crisp mixed with vanilla ice cream ... and the strawberry sundae... McDonald’s Brazil has built a winning path along its 22 years in the country. The Brazilian chain is McDonald’s eighth largest market worldwide. For the third consecutive year,in 2000 McDonald’s Brazil was awarded with the Franchising Hallmark of Quality by the Brazilian Franchising Association (ABF). Franchisees’ satisfaction with the company is crucial for this achievement. A research conducted by McDonald’s in the beginning of 2000, showed that 84% of the Brazilian franchisees would like to have one more McDonald’s restaurant. Currently, the 150 franchisees of McDonald’s Brazil hold 53% of the 530 restaurants spread throughout the country’s 8.5 million square kilometers. In addition to the Hallmark of Quality, McDonald’s Brazil has received in 2000 three other equally important acknowledgments. Exame magazine, the country’s leading business publication, has chosen McDonald’s as the third Best Employer in the country and ranked it among the ten best companies with Corporate Citizenship practices. McDonald’s was also referred to as the fifth most admired company in the country by the renowned magazine Carta Capital. McDonald’s opened its first restaurant in Brazil in February 1979, in the district of Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro. Two years later, the golden arches came to São Paulo, the world’s third largest city, with a population of nearly 10 million inhabitants. Today, McDonald’s Brazil is present in 118 towns of 21 Brazilian States and the Federal District.

Whether you want "salgadinhos", chicken, tapioca pancakes, coconut sweets, or corn on the cob, it can all be purchased on the street /at the beach for next to nothing. Don't be afraid to try some of the best snacks that Brazil has to offer.
My favourite snacks are the "salgadinhos" like for example "coxinhas","Pao de Queijo", "pastel" or also the tapiocas filled with "carne de sol"....you can't eat only one!!! Leave a Comment Theme: Street Vendor

Commonly found all over Brazil. 'Comida-por-kilo' means 'food-by-kilo'. In other words, they are pay-by-weight restaurants. There are rows and rows of food, served buffet style. You pick and choose the food you like and how much you want and they weigh it and charge you for what you took. No more point-and-pray!! Sometimes, the varieties are excellent, other times, they are just the standard dishes of beef, rice, beans, fries. Leave a Comment
