 | Brazil Sports Travel | Tips 1 - 10 of 19 | | If you're a soccer fan, Brazil is paradise. Locals will be talking about it, the newspapers will cover every aspect of it and it's always on the television. If you visit Rio, try to plan your trip when there is a match going on between two rival teams. I saw Flamengo play Vasco de Gama in Maracana (the world's largest stadium) and it was truly amazing. I am not a surfer and never did it, but as I am an experienced traveller around Brazil I am sure that -if you are a surfer and want to practise it there- you will find great places to surf around! Generally brazilian beaches have good and huge waves, so it must be a surfer's paradise! :-) Especially known for good surfing are: Florianopolis: Praia da Joaquina (south of Brazil) Saquarema: (150 kms north from Rio) Rio de Janeiro: Barra da Tijuca beach If you want to please check out following webpages about surfing in Brazil : http://www.globalsurfers.com/spotguide.cfm?continentid=5&land=Brasil http://surfbrasil.virtualave.net/ (there under "Links" you will find some useful liknks to surfing pages in Brazil) http://www.longboards.com.brr /> http://br.cade.dir.yahoo.com/Esporte/Esportes_de_Aventura/Surf/index17.html (here also surf-links from Brazil) http://360graus.terra.com.br/surf/geral.asp?did=380 http://www.brasilsurf.com/ http://br.dir.yahoo.com/regional/paises/brasil/estados/rio_de_janeiro/cidades/rio_de_janeiro/esportes_e_lazer/Surf/ (links to surf pages -Rio) http://surfreporter.cidadeinternet.com.br/ http://www.easydrop.com/port/easydrop.htm (school in Bahia) http://directory.google.com/Top/World/Portugu%AAs/Regional/Brasil/Esportes/Surf/ http://me.desmond.com/surf/index-br.htm (photos from surf places and beaches around Brazil) http://www.mormaii.com.br http://www.4surf.com.br/ http://aol.surfreporter.com.br If you want to be in Rio de Janeiro and to surf there, I have also a very good friend in Rio (native carioca, but not surfer) who does speak english and know very well the beaches (Barra da Tijuca, Saquarema, etc.), he maybe could meet you up and go with you to the places of interest.....just write me, if you are interested!
Another great place to surf between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo is Itamambuca beach in Ubatuba. Ubatuba has 50 beaches and many of them are good to surf and usually gather the surf crowd. See "Surf Ubatuba" webpage: http://www.litoralnorte.com.br/ubatuba/surf/index.htm Itamambuca helds an international surf competition in July which is a great ocasion to visit the place. There are tons of cheap pousadas surf style around. Take a look at Itamambuca Eco Resort http://www.itamambuca.com.br/<br /> - they have a spacious camping area right by the beach, there are also chalés and a high standard hotel. There are also many other beach activities that Brazilians enjoy, including volleyball, strutting around looking good, beach soccer and foot volleyball (pictured here). Foot volleyball was incredible to watch. It's just like volleyball, except they don't use their hands. These guys kick, chest, head, shoulder and knee the ball over the net and the skill level required is extremely high. Leave a Comment Theme: Beach Activities

Hang gliding over Rio de Janeiro was one of the best things I did on my whole trip. The feeling was very peaceful and the view was beautiful and it really made me envious of birds! Unfortunately, a couple weeks after I did this an instructor and his student were killed in an accident and all tandem jumps were barred. You'll want to check with local companies to make sure they are back to jumping. Leave a Comment

beach volley is the second most popular sport in brazil after football. you will fine lot´s of people playing it on the big city beaches, especially late in the afternoon. the standards can be very high at times and several of the best european and north american beach volley players spend a great deal of the year practising with the brazilians on the beaches there. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: it´s mostly played late in the afternoon on the big city beaches.

Itacaré is a small village located in the Costa do Cacau (Cocoa Coast) in Bahia state, with about 10.000 inhabitants and tens of untouched beaches. After the declining of cocoa culture, in 40’s the town was abandoned and stayed forgotten for decades until was recently rediscovered by tourism. Now, the town receives people from all parts of the country and world, moving to Itacaré looking for peace, sun and beach. The region is cut by innumerous rivers and waterfalls and it is one of the last in Bahia presenting the Atlantic Rain Forest, one of the richest ecosystems in the world. The whole nature of Itacaré is wonderful, but the beaches deserve special commentaries. The coast between Itacaré and Ilhéus is a succession of beaches and hills covered with and Atlantic Rain Forest. Some of them are so small and hidden that they do not show up on maps or tour guides.
Itacaré is one of the best surf points in Brazil. There are some local surf shops that rent surf boards and body-boards. However they are not always in good shape. If you are a surf lover, don’t forget your own board. Brazil has no shortage of great coastline and as a result, surfing is a major sport here. I enjoyed watching the surfer's in Rio from Aproador Beach, the rock formation between Copacabana and Ipanema. Leave a Comment Theme: Surfing

for individuals who like horseriding, Brasil is and always was a good place to exlplore the country on a Horseback. personally I fancied the countryside of Minas Gerais, Santa Catarina or Rio Grande do Sul. the Royal trial in Minas Gerais is a facinating way to spent a week in Brasil
