Pantanal is the worlds largest wetlands and it´s a very good place to view wildlife, especially birds. It´s located in central Brazil just south of the Amazon jungle close to the borders of Bolivia and Paraguay. It´s one place where i recommend that you spend a little extra money and stay in a place where they have well educated tour guides as it makes the whole experience a lot nicer. Check my pantanal page for recommendations. Leave a Comment Directions: Located in central Brazil near the Bolivian border.

Down by the harbour in Amazonas. by cachaseiro Most of the Amazon forest is in brazil and it's the kinda place i always wanted to visit since i was a kid. Amazonas is very out of the way and adventurous. It's not easy to roam around there and you will need some time to explore the region properly. If you do so you will see that adventure is still possible. It´s a region that is in many ways still very wild west and you should be prepared for a bit of everything and some odd characters among the locals, but it´s a really really interesting part of the world. north east brazil. by cachaseiro The north east of brazil is the region where the people have the least money, but the biggest hearts. Travelling the north east is a true adventure and you will meet the freindliest and most open minded people in the world there. The region is generally poor, but it´s not a dangorous part of Brazil as lonmg as you keep away from the slums in the big cities. It´s a very unique part of Brazil and You will also come across some of the best beaches in the world in that region. Leave a Comment

There is no way around the beaches in Brazil. They are the center of the social life in most brazilian towns and the place where you meet your friends and get new friends. Brazilien beaches, especially in the big cities are not the isolated bounty land beaches, but very lively beaches with lots of people and football, music, kids, families, volleyball and everything else you can imagine. There is a whole culture surrounding the beaches in brazil and it is not just a place you go to get a tan. Leave a Comment

Sunset from the dune, jericoacoara by perfectly_zen Jericoacoara is a very known attraction in Brazil...located in the state of Ceará, in the northeast, it´s considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches not only in the country, but in the planet... When I went to Jericoacoara, i was expecting what people told me about: an empty beach, with a little village, old houses and lots of dunes. I can´t hide the fact that I was much disappointed when I arrived....Jericoacoara is not what it used to be anymore. The village has grown a lot with the arrival of other people, not to mention the amount of tourists the beach receives everyday. But that wouldn´t be the biggest problem...the main beach, that used to be the most beautiful is now invaded by little restaurants and handcraft stores for tourists. As you walk along the beach, away from the new houses and the little restaurants in front of the sea, you´ll find a completely desert string of sand with lakes, fishing boats...you´ll realize Jericoacoara was indeed a magical place, an awesome place some years ago...that´s really sad....I talked to a local fisherman there, and he agreed with me, saying he did not like the uncontrolled growth as well.... But although the main beach is not how it used to be once, there are many lovely desert places nearby, all you have to do is get a buggy for you. The perfect time to go to jericoacoara is the low season, when you can find an empty, tranquil village. Apart from the main beach, there are many "must dos" around....one of them is to watch the sunset over the giant dune (picture), as well as walking on buggy amongst the dunes to reach the lagoons Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Paraíso, with perfect transparent water... Usually at the end of the day the capoeira group of the village "dances" on the main beach. Capoeira ia a typical brazilian fight, created by the slaves at the time of colonization...they pretended to be dancing so that they wouldn´t be punished for fighting... Leave a Comment Directions: To reach Jericoacoara, you can get a bus from Fortaleza to Jijoca, a nearby city, and then a buggy over the sand to Jeri...Website: http://www.jericoacoara.com/

Foz do iguacu are the worlds largest waterfalls. It´s not just one, but dozens of giant waterfalls shaped like a giant horse shoe and every time you think you have seen it all you just turn the corner and you find another fall, the size of the Niagara falls. The falls are set in a semi jungle area and that just makes it all more beautiful and excotic. The movie "the mission" was filmed in this region, so if you liked the pictures from that movie then you have one more reason to go here. This is really one of the biggest WOW moments you will have in your travelling life if you visit that place. Leave a Comment Directions: The falls are located where the three borders of Brazil,Argentina and Paraguay meets.

This archipelago is definately one of the most (if not THE most) beautiful places in Brazil....it´s the perfect paradise for those who love ecoturism, diving, hiking, being close to nature, peace and quiet... Fernando de Noronha is located 360km away from Natal and 550km away from Recife. You can reach the main island by boat, which would take more or less three days, or by a plane (tiny plane hohohohoh), that takes an hour from Natal, with a breathtaking view from above... It consist of 21 islands, of vulcanic origin, with the base located at 4000 meters below the surface....it´s considered a National Park, strictly protected by the IBAMA, where you will be able to see not only amazing landscapes and untouched beaches, but a huge variety of species of birds and a diverse sea fauna, with a bonus of shiprecks as well for those who like diving. Four to five days is the perfect time to visit the whole island....the best period to go is in September, off season and the water has the best visibility... Noronha is the kind of place that makes you sad when you leave.... Leave a Comment

Gunga beach, Maceió by perfectly_zen Alagoas has most of the beautiful beaches in the country....there are cocconut trees everywere, fishermen villages, white soft sand and the outstanding bright emerald sea.... Some are private properties, like Praia do Gunga, considered to be one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the country, the beach is a cocconut plantation, and since it´s private there is absolutely nothing spoiling the environment...the problem is that you can´t go to Gunga by yourself, because you need an authorization. You can´t also under no circumstances enter the plantation, the owner´s workers will take it as an invasion... Sonho Verde (="green dream") has a small village, long cocconut trees and a peaceful atmosphere. Ilha da Croa is another paradisiac beach, with extremely green waters, also known for its coloured cliffs. A buggy ride to the cliffs is a great experience. Next to the frontier with the state of Pernambuco, is Maragogi, known for transparent water and huge reef banks 6km away from the coast. Leave a Comment

View of Maceió by perfectly_zen Maceió is located 250 km of Recife. It´s the capital of Alagoas, a state known for its magical beaches, lovely people, but also as the state with most social differences in Brazil. Maceió is a very agitated, glowy city, it has the same atmosphere of Fortaleza... the beaches have an amazing green sea...the most agitated is Pajuçara, where you´ll find some boats to take you to natural pools....another one is Ponta Verde, and Pajuçara, less crowded. In the beach Pontal da Barra, next to the lagoa do Mundaú, there is a handcraft fair with wonderful typical sewing works.... Ponta Verde is more calm, has a long sidewalk where locals go for some exercice in the morning... Pratagi is a long beach located a bit more far from the main center,,,,it´s calm, and famous for the monument of a mermaid in the middle of the sea. Garça Torta is a little village located next to Maceió, a great spot to watch the sunset... Leave a Comment
