Paraty.

by cachaseiro

Paraty is located by the sea just south of Rio De Janeiro and is a very pretty little colonial town that was previously used as the main harbour for shipping gold from Brazil to Europe.Today Paraty is a very pleasant little seaside town that attracts quite a few tourists, both local and foreign and it´s a very pleasant place to spend a few days.

Ouro Preto.

by cachaseiro

Ouro Preto is a real gem in Brazil and not visited by that many because it´s not close to an airport. It´s located up in the mountains in the state called Minas Gerais and is a fantastic little colonial town with very well preserved houses and churches. It´s also a student town and is therefor a very lively place to be for a few days.If you like colonial towns in a fantastic setting then this is an absolute must.

Rio de Janeiro

by solopes

I've just noticed that I posted a tip inviting to my pages about some top destinations in Brazil, and forgot... Rio de Janeiro. Well, we weren't lucky in our visit (lost luggage - wasted time), but I don't need to say that Rio de Janeiro is an absolute "Must see".

what to do between rio and sao paulo

by rkearns

yes! definitely visit paraty!i have taken a bus from sao paulo to paraty, up to angra dos reis, around ilha grande and to rio. i would spend only a couple of days in paraty, as it's a small town. there are passeios (boat excursions) in both paraty and in rio. in rio, they take you to an archipelago about 1.5 hrs (by bus) south in a town called itacuruca. the way to buy a ticket is either online http://www.brasilazul.com.br/itacurucaoquefazerpasseios.aspor by looking for a travel company just a block up from avenida atlantica in copacabana. i would definitely do paraty. there's a lot of cultural history that's easily accessible. little shops that sell brazilian artifacts, great food....there are also boat excursions in angra, but i found them less appealing because they were very crowded, commercial, and offered less wild natural beauty.

through the backstreets

by pepples46

strolling around the old Town..Ouro Preto, Stone Masenory of Alejadinho..brasilian Baroque with it's fine lines and rich interiors, past glory beautifuly restored. but the Cobblestones will give you a little grief, and up and down the streets asking for plenty of rest. be prepared with good footwear and make sure to avoid dehydration.

Foz do Iguacu

by pepples46

definitly a must, Busses from Rio or Sao Paulo, Belo Horizonte and of course from Curitiba, but be aware Bus trips are all long distance travel...from Rio or Sao Paulo you have to contend with 10-14h on the Bus. Flying is a option when time is limited and your Budget not going broke.the State of Parana has also a lot of other things to offer, take a little time and explore or go via my Parana page

building your around-the-world-itinerary

by rkearns

i only chose brazil bc they made me choose a location for this tip.yeah airtrek.com has great rates. what are your interests? are you into museums, nightlife and dining? are you into safaris? wanna just do nothing on the beach? do you want to see indigenous culture? are you into hiking, camping, getting dirty? do you want to be on a yacht on the amalfi coast? do you want to sky dive and zip line? etc . . .this sounds like a very fortunate opportunity. you could just throw a dart at a map (or your laptop screen) and start your adventure there, or you could sit down and take time to think about what you really want out of this trip. i think both ways are acceptable. how long will you be able to travel? what are is your budget? how long are you giving yourself to plan? what are all the entry requirements? what are the costs related to transportation? i'm really excited to read what you come...

Rio de janeiro.

by cachaseiro

Rio is a place that everyone should visit at least once in life. The former capital of brazil and the heartbeat of a nation.Rio is sexy, crazy, dangorous and so seductive that it´s a real thrill. It´s both a place with huge beach culture aswell as a historical town and it´s very easy to spend a week or two there exploring this facination city.

Tip Photo
Pantanal.

by cachaseiro

Pantanal is the worlds largest wetlands and it´s a very good place to view wildlife, especially birds. It´s located in central Brazil just south of the Amazon jungle close to the borders of Bolivia and Paraguay. It´s one place where i recommend that you spend a little extra money and stay in a place where they have well educated tour guides as it makes the whole experience a lot nicer.Check my pantanal page for recommendations.

Tip Photo
Foz do iguacu.

by cachaseiro

Foz do iguacu are the worlds largest waterfalls. It´s not just one, but dozens of giant waterfalls shaped like a giant horse shoe and every time you think you have seen it all you just turn the corner and you find another fall, the size of the Niagara falls. The falls are set in a semi jungle area and that just makes it all more beautiful and excotic. The movie "the mission" was filmed in this region, so if you liked the pictures from that movie then you have one more reason to go here. This is really one of the biggest WOW moments you will have in your travelling life if you visit that place.
