Varig

by Subria

Varig is the national airline of Brazil with many international and domestic routes and is a member of the Star Alliance. Unfortunately due to financial problems they had to reduce the network and the frequencies. Most international flights depart from Sao Paulo (GRU) or Rio de Janeiro (GIG), for more details have a look at the routemap on the website below.Domestic flights in Brazil are quite expensive, it you arrive on an international flight consider buying an airpass.

Leito

by Subria

These are luxury buses connecting larger cities during the night. The price is doble the normal bus fare but there are fewer seats and a lot more legroom. In the back of the bus there is free tea and coffee and on some routes there is even a snack included. It is recommended to book seats some days in advance.

Varig...the Brazilian falling star

by Ipanema_Princess

I was enthusiastic flying to Brazil with Varig, the national airline... but I was how very disappointed. I flied from Paris to Rio with a stop at Sao Paulo, same thing for return.First of all, do bring a book with you... because that was the first 11 hour flight of my life WITHOUT MOVIES. Nothing just a black screen all the time. The first time, I thought ok maybe it's broken....but same thing for return flight so I guess it's normal. However we had the compagny magazin advising of the movie program. How strange. Then the food was of course disguting, but that 's not a big surprise on a plane. The worst is that the breakfast was neeeever coming, they served it when it was almost lunch time. I was completly starving. So rule number two : do bring some snacks !None of the flights were on time. When I arrived, my flight came earlier that scheduled, so of course there was no one waiting for...

A 3 days cruise from Rio

by hmoitta

In december 2005 we and about 20 work mates with their families took a 3 days cruise ( Costa Victoria ship) starting and finishing in Rio; it went from Rio, Porto Belo ( Santa Catarina state), Santos (Sao Paulo state) and came back to Rio; most of the people in the ship were brazilian and we had a great time. As we booked early ( august ) we paid about 300US$ each for an inside cabin.

Rental Cars - Air Tire Pressure

by peace_prevails

When I picked up my rental car in Fortaleza (CE) in the northeast of Brazil, I noticed that the tires were 'riding a little low' and I'm not talking about 22" rims and low-pro pirelli's - they were low on air. So, I went to the nearest filling station and filled them up to the PSI as recommended on the tire - about 32 psi. A gas station attendant came and told me to leave them at about '20', but me being the wise, college educated gringo, assured him that the tires said 32 so I was going to fill them to 32. Long story short, I had a flat within the hour. On Brazilian roads, especially where there are a lot of potholes, it is wise to keep the tires inflated to a lower level to avoid changing a tire. The larger story is to listen to people who know more than you do about what you are doing. Stupid gringo.

by pepples46

unbelievable Traffic in the big Cities like Sao Paulo, Rio, Belo Horizonte or Porto Alegre, it would be better to use Public Transport..walking in Sao Paulo can be a health hazard because of the incredible car emmissions actually taking a taxi can also be the ride of your life..many drivers I eet, had difficulties with colour, red was green and so on, u get my drift LOL,.people with Asthma will have great difficulties, approach your mobility very careful
