CHILDREN HUMAN RIGHTS

by janaina

If you'll be the unfortunate guy to be robber by a child in Brazil,I know, the feeling is like it's the end of fun and you'll feel probably very very upset!I agree! But,if for a second, you stop to think that a very huge part of these street children never had a single article from UNICEF'S CHILDREN RIGHTS CONVENTION respected, maybe, not to justify, but maybe, you'll understand why!ARTICLE 1:THE RIGHT TO AN IDENTITYEach children have the right to a name and nacionality,to know his or her parents and be cared for them. The government has an obligation to protect the child's identity, name, nacionality and family ties.

Security

by skullcrusher

Brazil gets a bad rap for crime and being dangerous. Personally, I've never found it any more threatening than your average large city in the USA. Truthfully, when you're in a foreign land a little common sense goes a long way (a quality that seems to be lacking with many tourists. Obviously I wouldn't wander into the favelas (read: ghettos) if I were you.

There are no real problem of violence in bresil. If you follow easy rules. You are not in beautifull countries nof Europe, do not show that you have lots of money (from bresilian point of view). Do not go on copacabana with your watch, taking pictures, with your wallet full of money. Then no problem ca happen.

An unadvised tourist might come to Salvador and think it´s all bright and wonderful here. But pay attention: behind the beautiful scenarios hides the poverty and misery of 80% of the population...Sight from py parents' apartment: a favela behind a porsh neighbourhood...

It's always a good idea to know the money (paper and coins) of the country where you're going to so no one will fool you with phoney dows. :) And that's why I prepared a very special 'Money, Honey' Travelogue. Click here or go to my Sao Paulo page and then to the travelogue!

VERY IMPORTANT There is a big plague of dengue right now in Brazil. The dengue is a terrible disease transmitted by the Aedes Aegypt mosquito. Very frequent in countris with low sanitary conditions (ta daaa!), very dangerous. The mosquito breeds in clean steady water, so avoid leaving glasses of water in the open, water in the plant dishes and stuff. There is no much way to prevent it - most twon halls send off big trunks spreading a stinky smoke to kill the Aedes. There are some plug-insecticides on the market that claim to kill the aedes. BUT you never know. Follow the instructions below carefully:If you feel a headache and/or tired muscles and/or fever, by all means DO NOT TAKE AN ASPIRINE! Go to a doctor, and take a tylenol if you must, but if you should be infected with dengue and it's the hemorragic type, the aspirine would kill you.

This is very important! In Brazil the water from the faucet is NOT good for drinking! NEVER! Don't drink from the faucet! Don't drink from the tap! Also I met a norwegian guy who stopped drinking bottled water in Brazil because he read in the label 'low radioactivity' and thought maybe that Brazil was Nagazaki, Hiroshima or Chernobyll. Please! Human beings have radioactivity, if you emanate any kind of energy that propagates in the air you are radioactive! But this is a sort or radioactivity that does not harm the organism. So PLEASE, don't be silly, you can drink bottled water.

by martinelli

Visitors from the civilized world, beware : the cars won't stop for you to cross the street. Is there a traffic light around? Wait till it gets red (for the cars). Then wait to see if all the cars stop before the traffic light. They do? Sure? None of the drivers look like he's in a hurry? So say your prayers, hold on to the hand of the Lord and cross the street. There are only 3 places in the world - as far as I'm concerned - where the traffic is messier than here: Paris, Rome and Pequin.

Always have change with you....

by martinelli

Always have change with you. Having 50 reais bills is often the same as having no money at all, 'cause no one will change it. Have your money in tens, fives and ones, don't count money in public, don't wave it around on the streets. Don't go out with a lot of money. Take only what's necessary for the day.
