Traditional Dancing Girl by easyoar A couple of days a week, there is a traditional dance in the Hanga Roa hotel. There is audience participation, so if you don't want to get invloved keep away from the front row! (Not that this did me any good!). It lasts around 75 mins as I remember, and is very good value compared to Tahiti or the Moari ones in New Zealand.

Rapa Nui are the local islanders, and the islands by easyoar There's a little cinema (well just a largish room actually) in Hanga Roa where several times a week they show the film Rapa Nui which is a Kevin Costner interpretation of Easter Island history. The film is not 100% accurate (as most Hollywood films seem not to be) and some of the acting is a little wooden, but it gives a good indication as to why they cut down all the trees on the island, and shows some of the horrors of the birdman race. Above all though, it is just enjoyable to watch the film where it was made!

Don't get too drunk as medical care is limited. There are 3 doctors on the island (Dr. G. Concha Grossi, Dr. P. Barra Hernandez, and a 3rd doctor). Almost all surgery and all elective surgery is sent to Chile. The main surgery done is Cesearean section where spinal anesthesia is given. Nitrous oxide and halothane (rarely used anymore in some countries) are the general anesthetics available. The main uses for these anesthetics are emergency abdominal surgeries, such as appendectomy. If you break your arm, they use ketamine as an anesthesia. Ketamine is also used in horses. There is concern among the doctors that with more cars and trucks being imported and more drinking than in the past, trauma will be more common and difficult to treat considering the limited resources of the hospital. Visitors should be careful and not fall or otherwise injury their head as the closest neurosurgeon is over 3000 km away. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

No nightlife as far as I could get to know while I was there. Just relax and watch the stars....... Leave a Comment Theme: Other

There are 2 discos, one in town and one near the airport. There's also the Banana Pub/Disco, in town. Things get going about midnight and go all night. Expensive (Coke $6). Loud. Keep this in mind when you're choosing your lodging.
Casual, as always on the island. Leave a Comment Theme: Nightclub

Nightlife in Rapa Nui? You must be joking! The island holds 3000 inhabitants and all festivitas takes place at home with the family, leaving very little room for bars and discos. I don't even think there is a single bar in Hanga Roa........ Leave a Comment Theme: Other

me thinks the unltimate wekkend spot for locals and tourist alike, entrance fee consits of a lotto ticket being drawn at the end of the night and to my surprise i won a bottle of Barcardi, and the barman gives you a bottle of coke 6 cups with ice and tell me you will have many friends very soon, and as soon as i went outside the locals all offered me a seat and proceded to drink up till the sun came up,i think i got 1 drink out of it but had many laughs and made new friends, the so called disco is nothing more than a barn with tables on the sides, bar,dj and toilet, playing old music but had everyone up dancing all night

Rapa Nui Dances by handsoum The Rapa Nui Traditional Folklore Society will sing and dance for you at the main bar in Hanga Roa. They mimic Rapa Nui societal traditions and beliefs through their dances and beautiful songs. This is not just another Polynesian dansing show; the performers are genuinely enjoying themselvs and it shows; they were 20 and we were 6 in the audience... They perform 6 feet away from you and will invite you up to dance with them. The Rapa Nui women have a very special charm and they will certainly have an effect on you, whether you are a man or a woman. I admit getting a little scared when the men performed the warrior dances however... As an experienced London ballet-goer, I can only say I was very impressed by the excellence of this show.
