Don't get too drunk as medical care is limited. There are 3 doctors on the island (Dr. G. Concha Grossi, Dr. P. Barra Hernandez, and a 3rd doctor). Almost all surgery and all elective surgery is sent to Chile. The main surgery done is Cesearean section where spinal anesthesia is given. Nitrous oxide and halothane (rarely used anymore in some countries) are the general anesthetics available. The main uses for these anesthetics are emergency abdominal surgeries, such as appendectomy. If you break your arm, they use ketamine as an anesthesia. Ketamine is also used in horses. There is concern among the doctors that with more cars and trucks being imported and more drinking than in the past, trauma will be more common and difficult to treat considering the limited resources of the hospital.
